In Des Moines a squirrel halted downtown activity for 11 minutes as electric service stopped and radio stations went off air. Engineers later found the animal electrocuted on a transformer feeding power from the Carlisle road plant.
Mrs Lydia Riesland widow of Anson Riesland received 3600 settlement after suing Will Hein for 50000 over grasshopper poison mistaken for beer at a threshing party near Dunlap. Nine children depend on the family as the suit concluded.
Iowa City professor James N. Pearce known as Kee Pearce of the chemistry department since 1997 died at Iowa Stadium from heart failure while attending the Iowa Purdue football game.

Burlington dispatch notes a 599 horsepower Murray Iron Works boiler built for the Cherokee state hospital. CEDAR RAPIDS Nov 16 ins report a hitch hiker shot 21 year old farmer ard Bohstedt of Victor Iowa two miles from Fairfax. Bohstedt said he picked up the man at Belle Plaine then was forced to turn south and robbed before being shot in the left side. The bullet damaged a nerve cord leaving him paralyzed below the hips. He drove to Lester Mitchells home for help and was taken to a hospital. One suspect was arrested but Bohstedt could not identify him.
A bandit robbed oil station operator R. A. Weber at seven in the morning, taking 200 dollars after forcing Weber into a wash room and taping his mouth. Weber freed himself and alerted police. capture efforts by officers in nearby towns followed.
Petit jurors for the November term of district court were to report for their first work this afternoon. The first case listed is Simmons vs Durst. Likely the only jury case this term if it goes to trial. C. J. Lambert of Sigourney represents the plaintiff and S. W. Livingston of Washington the defendant.
The Washington County Farm Bureau Federation schedules its annual meeting for November 28 in the Methodist church social rooms. Morning reports will be heard at eleven with a basket dinner to follow. Alan Kline of Vinton will deliver the address, and officers plus township directors will be elected or ratified.
Mr and Mrs T A Morris Jr were injured when their car left Highway 77 two miles north of Richland and wrecked in a ditch. Morris, 68, is in Washington county hospital with two crushed vertebrae and paralysis from the waist down. Mrs Morris suffered broken bones above the ankle and multiple cuts. Sheldon Morris arrived to run the Morris hardware store in Keota.
