Spirit Lake Iowa Clifford B E White the Democratic candidate said he will contest the Dickinson county attorney election after canvass trimmed Mrs Virginia Bedell lead from 27 to 16 votes. White will pay recount costs estimated at $100.
Nashua hosts Education Week with a McGuffey reader tea as adults take turns reading schoolday favorites. The event marks a century of the McGuffey readers first published about a hundred years ago.
George Roberson an 80 year old machinist suffered severe facial and head burns when an acetylene torch exploded in his basement shop in Ames. The blast caused about $500 damage to his shop and to Olson floral shop above. Cause of the blast unknown and debris including flowers pots and broken spin littered the floor.
George Duffield of Omaha fell 40 feet from a third story window at Immaculate Conception academy in Davenport while washing windows. He survived with a fracture of the right wrist and was taken to Mercy hospital.
Corning Arnold Spencer of the Audubon Advocate Republican was chosen president as 100 editors met for the Southwest Iowa Editorial Association. Don Berry of Indianola was elected vice president and Erlin L. Sweeley of Lenox serve as secretary and treasurer.

Clark Howell publisher of the Atlanta Constitution and Georgia Democratic National Committee man died in Atlanta after illness. A former mandling editor since 1889, he led the paper after 1897 and served in Georgia politics from 1892 to 1924, then again this fall.

Lake City Iowa reports a fire that destroyed the Easton block a two story brick building with six shops and several rooms and apartments. About 5000 people from the community watched as fifty volunteer firemen fought the blaze and saved nearby structures. The fire is thought to have started by spontaneous combustion in the apartment of Joe Osborn.
A Southeast Iowa Odd Fellows convention for secretaries and scribes met in a lodge hall with delegates from Ottumwa Muscatine Burlington Keokuk and others. Washington Rebekahs hosted a banquet for about 100 attendees followed by a program and dance at the Iowa ballroom with music from an Iowa City orchestra. Next year’s meeting moves to Fairfield.
Clarinda Iowa Nov 14 A will filed reveals a 35000 bequest to the Red Cross from the late William Pinkerton of College Springs Iowa. Three cousins Maggie McKeown Mabel Lindley and Mattie Baines receive 100 each with the remainder to the Red Cross.
