Body of Iowa farmer found under car
Cornelius Schroeder a 31 year old farmer from near Schleswig was found wedged under his overturned car in a creek. Neighbor Ed Ranking found the body and said the watch at 2:30 a.m. indicated time of death. Crawford County sheriff W. K. Bryan investigated.

Army Raids Big Market In Zeilsheim Germany
U S army raiding squads seized 10 people and thousands of dollars worth of illicit goods at the Zeilsheim displaced persons camp in central Europe. Authorities described the site as a suspected nerve center of a large black market ring with activities spanning Frankfurt Hamburg and other cities. The operation recovered saccharine currency military scrip and various valuables though no counterfeiting equipment was found.

Twenty-Five Bicycle Riders Fined for Stop Sign Violations
Mayor R L Lytle presided over a police court session at City Hall where 25 youths aged 12 to 17 were fined one dollar each for running stop signs while bicycling. Chief Carl Haneker had rounded up riders near the junior high school and officials warned about night riding until bicycles have lights. Deputy Sheriff Walt Kiesey read the bicycle ordinance and officials said names would be published as part of a safety campaign.

Plane search underway for missing Western Airlines transport
A fleet of 19 airplanes with ground crews conducted a 690 square mile search of foothills in a rain storm for a Western Airlines transport that vanished yesterday with 11 aboard. Five Western planes and five sheriff craft led the effort with tips to forestry look out stations and ground searchers aiding the operation.
