Six police constables were killed when a Jewish underground mine exploded beneath a police trolley three miles south of Jerusalem. A second explosion near Tel Aviv derailed a Lydea train with unknown casualties. Two constables were British and four were Arabs. Authorities arrested several suspects.
A twin-engined Western Air Lines transport with eight passengers and a crew of three aboard went missing on a flight from Las Vegas to Burbank. Sighting reports near Sunland suggested a possible crash, with search teams dispatched to verify the wreckage as winds and rain disrupted other landings at Los Angeles area airports.
More than 200 parents and visitors attended the Education Week observance at the junior high. Seventh and eighth grade rooms performed a pioneer days pageant with choral music, under principal Ethel McCreedy and teachers. A detailed scene display and art backdrops enhanced the program. Evening events continue at Lincoln school, Stewart school, and the high school through Friday.

Moline November report says Samuel A Mullinix Democratic Rock Island county clerk faces arraignment on tampering charges tied to the November 5 election. A warrant by Republican county chairman Bergeson accuses Mullinix of altering machines after the sample ballot certification and of accepting withdrawals of two Republican candidates after the deadline and placing levers above their names on many machines awaiting inspection.
A British military government spokesman said Germany will assume full administration of the British zone in Berlin by January 1 under supervision of British authorities.
In New York the United Electrical Radio and Machine Workers CIO demands new wage boosts for about 60,000 members to offset rising prices. The union plans to coordinate with United Steel Workers and other CIO affiliates after a two day wage policy meeting.
At a Y M C A board meeting the annual fund drive was scheduled for the week of November 24. Committees will immediately start planning. The drive aims to reach the entire citizenry to give opportunities to contribute as sponsors on the annual support basis. A notably active year is planned for 1947 with an increased budget.
Davenport mourns Carol Klein 55. Architect and former Holbrook Furniture president, son of Isaac Klein of Klein Klothing. He died yesterday after a recent operation. Survived by wife and two daughters. services set for Thursday at 38:30 o clock in Davenport.
Storm warnings blanket the southern California coast as gale winds up to 60 mph and heavy rains strike. A snow depth of up to three feet blankets southern California mountains while rescue teams assist marooned ranch families and thousands of livestock in the Rocky Mountain region with planes delivering feed and opening road blocks.
Chicago report notes that sixty percent of entering medical students this fall are veterans and twelve percent are women. American Medical Association supports findings from the slate of new doctors.
Dr. Joseph Mattsson Bose of Chicago and Rev. Paul Jacobson of Des Moines spoke at the closing session of a three day teaching convention at the Christian Tabernacle. The service starts at seven with six speakers and an ordination of Rev. Lewis Malmin of Nevada Iowa yesterday evening.
South Africa announces it will annex Southwest Africa regardless of UN General Assembly action. Field Marshal Jan Smuts presents a take-it-or-leave-it plan to the trusteeships committee amid Soviet opposition to the annexation. Southwest Africa was a German colony until WWI and has been administered by South Africa under a league mandate.
Iowa highway commission reports low bids for paving about 20 miles of primary state roads with a total cost over 1.1 million dollars. Ross Construction Co. of Des Moines submitted three of the largest bids for projects on Iowa 17 relocation, Iowa 14 in Floyd County, and several routes in Council Bluffs. Other low bidders include Kramme and Jensen Construction Co. of Des Moines for Iowa 81 Wellman and Booth and Olson Inc. of Sioux City for additional miles.
Godfrey Juzeler 75 died suddenly yesterday evening at 5 30 at his home five miles northeast of Washington after a brief illness He helped with daily tasks but fell ill Funeral services will be held at two o'clock Friday afternoon at the L A Jones funeral home Burial will be in Elms Grove cemetery He was born May 15 1871 in West Leyden New York son of Peter and Adeline Anken Juzeler and moved to Iowa at age five He had resided in Washington County since 1895 He married Nellie Smeltzer December 25 1909 who survives He was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church in his home community He also leaves a daughter Mrs John Cherry of Washington a brother Fred Juzeter and a sister Lydia Juzeter both of Washington.
Keith Gabriel and Walter Anderson, both 28, are killed when a light plane crashes near Rockwell City Iowa. Anderson dies later at Fort Dodge hospital while Gabriel is presumed dead at the scene. They were flying low to wave at friend Russell Drennen who was corn picking. the aircraft failed to regain altitude.
Edward McCoy a 65 year old Waterloo lawyer with 42 years of practice died and his funeral was held at St Josephs Catholic church He served as past state advocate of the Knights of Columbus and wrote many articles for law publications.
Pella Iowa November 13 Special Agent John Nieburg of the Iowa Bureau of Criminal Investigation died yesterday in an Oskaloosa hospital. Funeral arrangements were being made. he is survived by his widow and one daughter.
A property at Iowa 230 near Transit Avenue in Sioux City lies west and north of Morningside Avenue, priced at 191 155 dollars.
A boiler room explosion at Baroda consolidated school in Berrien County wrecked two rooms. One pupil died and about 15 to 20 children were in the area. 15 others were injured and rushed to hospitals. A teacher Mira Spackel was among the injured. Rescue work continued as debris were cleared and state police aided with ambulances and fire precautions.
Iowa bond director Roger F. Warin reports Series E bond sales in the state for the first nine months of 1946 reached 109.78 percent of redemptions for Series A through FE. Mayor George Brown of Conesville was freed on $25,000 bond after a brief habeas corpus hearing in Muscatine district court. He faces first degree murder charges in connection with the fatal October 29 shooting of Dr. Ady Royal McKeown.
