Ladies of M. E. Church Dinner At Hotel Allen

The annual church dinner and supper was held in the vacant room of the Hotel Allen block on the north side of the square. Women served a royal spread and sold home-made candy and chrysanthemums. Proceeds reached $60 for missions.

Eastern Iowa Medical Association Meeting at Columbus Junction

The Eastern Iowa Medical Association met at Columbus Junction with physicians from southeast Iowa. Dr J H Hull of Washington read a paper on Croupous Pneumonia. The group planned to meet next in Washington in June and urged proper hospitality to boost the town.

Misses Anderson and Daugherty to open kindergarten school

The Misses Nettie Anderson and Essie Daugherty plan to open a kindergarten school this winter. They have not chosen a location yet and will begin one week from Monday after delays in preparations. The Journal wishes them success in the city.

Health officials report a new scarlet fever case, the first in several months, with Victor Van Sickle named as the victim and calls for precautions to prevent spread.

Timber worker suffers deep axe wound to foot

J. K. Brown cut his left foot while hewing timber this morning when the ax struck brush and slipped through his boot to the bone. He bound the gash with his scarf, reached town for aid, and is able to walk today though with limited weight bearing.

Wells Cleared of Highway Robbery Suspicion

Jin Wells, accused as an accomplice of Mellrath in a highway robbery, was arrested and taken to Washington but discharged after Sheriff Teeters examined him. The Kalona News notes Wells lacks a left thumb and has witnesses placing him at a political meeting the crime evening, leaving the suspicion unresolved and pointing to another suspect.
