Handkerchiefs offered at 2c and 3c for Sc. 40 dozen at 20c each. 10c and 12c items include Embroidered and plain hem-stitched handkerchiefs, linen initial pieces. Some retail up to 30c. At 20c and 25c touted as the greatest and best handkerchiefs sold, very finely embroidered with new styles.
An advertisement details a wide range of furniture and home items with prices from 10 cents to 33.85. Items include an elegant upright piano three piece parlor sets mirrors beds dining tables and chairs as well as rugs carpets and kitchen goods. The list mentions oak sideboards rockers and lawn chairs among other household pieces.

The Misses Nettie Anderson and Essie Daugherty plan to open a kindergarten school this winter. They have not chosen a location yet and will begin one week from Monday after delays in preparations. The Journal wishes them success in the city.
Health officials report a new scarlet fever case, the first in several months, with Victor Van Sickle named as the victim and calls for precautions to prevent spread.
J. K. Brown cut his left foot while hewing timber this morning when the ax struck brush and slipped through his boot to the bone. He bound the gash with his scarf, reached town for aid, and is able to walk today though with limited weight bearing.
Jin Wells, accused as an accomplice of Mellrath in a highway robbery, was arrested and taken to Washington but discharged after Sheriff Teeters examined him. The Kalona News notes Wells lacks a left thumb and has witnesses placing him at a political meeting the crime evening, leaving the suspicion unresolved and pointing to another suspect.
