Nelson G. Kraschel led the Iowa governor race by 2 275 votes based on official returns from 93 counties and unofficial figures from the remaining six counties.
J. W. James of Council Bluffs, 29, indicted for assault with intent to maim after biting patrolman Robert F. Edwards during an arrest following a tavern brawl. The case centers on the alleged attack in council Bluffs.
William J. Kennedy, 25, elected Chickasaw county attorney over incumbent V. S. White by 738 votes, is believed to be Iowa's youngest county attorney. A Democrat and Notre Dame Law School graduate of 1935, he attended Drake University for one year.
Mr and Mrs C F Carlson of Audubon celebrate two sons Carl 38 and Elmer 28 winning national cornhusking titles. He notes third son Arvid, though not yet a competitor, should enter next year.
Alton officials report local burglars raided several rooms at the high school but found little of value. Superintendent Henry A. Boone said the only item recovered was a quart of peaches from the home economics room along with a few nickels and pennies.

Ames reports the James Thompson Contracting Co. secured the general construction of a $163,000 Iowa State College veterinary clinic with a low bid of $141,590. Wheatland Co. of Cedar Rapids won plumbing and heating at $18,340 and Carstens Brothers of Ackley took the lighting contract at $3,509.
The University of Iowa plans the first issue of The Western Theater a magazine on experimental theater by advanced students It will debut next month and be issued four times yearly to stimulate original scripts in community and university theaters An editorial board includes Ellsworth P Conkle Marcus Bach and Robert Whitehead.
Young McGregor boys aged five and six learned war's lesson by visiting a cemetery on Armistice Day. They climbed a hill to honor a World War veteran buried there and afterward sang America and prayed, as recalled by the children.
Des Moines dispatch notes Lt. Gov. N. G. Kraschel leads Republican George Wilson for Iowa governor as canvass nears completion. Kraschel 524 248 to Wilson 521 672 with 2 576 vote edge amid county-by-county totals.

Des Moines reports the Iowa 1936 corn average at 20 bushels per acre with a total crop of 218 million bushels, unchanged from October and below 1935 and the five year average. About 97 percent matured with harvest progress aided by October conditions. 65 percent of the crop is husked. Soybean production is estimated at 2.3 million bushels, down from 1935 and 1934.
Mrs Lucile Nicola, a teacher at the New London high school, has returned to her parents’ home with her husband Mr Baril Nicola as repairs are made following trouble at the school.
Major L T Saul at the high school Armistice program argued Armistice Day should honor a continuation of peace rather than warfare citing World War II as still compelling arms. Veterans and local leaders attended with devotional leaders and musical tributes from the high school band and junior college chorus.
