James Sou bas of Waterloo was fined 250 dollars and court costs after pleading guilty to illegal possession of pheasants in Cedar Falls.
Davenport based Scott County Attorney Leo A Grapes was arrested after his car struck 65 year old Marion Aubrey in Rock Island. He was released on $200 bond and the case continued pending Aubrey’s injuries outcome. Grapes had just been re elected.
A skull found in a creek bed by C. N. Rhoades and Victor Lesan was taken home by boys Winton Robinson Billy Finch and Weldon Sandace. Sheriff O K Knight of Ringgold County seeks its origin and seeks clues to its source.
Delbert McHaffy of Mediapolis will join the U S delegation led by Secretary Hull for the Inter American Peace Conference in Buenos Aires South America. He has served as a cable gram decoder in Washington DC for six years. McHaffy, son of Mr and Mrs Joseph McHaffy, will be in South America for three months.
Rev. J. A Hurley D D aged 67 pastor of the Baptist church for seven years dropped dead of a heart attack in the pulpit during the morning service He was making weekly announcements when he collapsed remained dying as members reached him in the church
STATE CENTER Harold Eggers, 22, was shot and killed at the Cross cafe. Officers detained J D Cross, proprietor, who they say called police to the scene and admitted the shooting.
Cedar Rapids reports two 17 year old Coe College freshmen Belva Overturf and Mable Elston were located in Dallas Texas. Their Toledo Ohio parents Mr and Mrs J H Elston and Mr and Mrs P H Overturf travel to Dallas to bring them home.
President Eugene A. Gilmore of the University of Iowa breathed easier as officials vacated 10 streets and alleys on campus a longtime threat to his residence and the Memorial Union was removed.
Waverly Warthuro college officials announce an endowment from the American Lutheran church totaling more than $42,000 for next year. The grant surpasses the asked amount by $5,000 and is $10,000 larger than 1936. Funds will raise faculty salaries and hire additional instructors in September.
Iowa City report notes Professor Norman Forester, chief of the state university program, warns in a forthcoming book that state universities oppose democracy. Details indicate Forester critiques academic influence and calls for policy shifts ahead of January publication.
J D Cross proprietor of a State Center beer tavern is jailed in Marshalltown after fatally shooting Harold Eggers 22 a farm hand Eggers had twice been evicted from the tavern and threatened Cross Cross says he fired in self defense Eggers died from a neck wound after one shot Cross had served three years of a ten year term for breaking and entering before parole
Dr. Arthur Atack announces a Methodist Church Family Night tomorrow evening. Dinner at 6 30 is potluck with guests asked to bring sandwiches, covered dish and utensils. An Armistice Day message and special music are planned with the choir seating together before leaving at 7 30 for practice.
A Gypsy camp south of Crawfordsville faces complaints of theft from several residents. A Moraine Sun man said a Gypsy woman stole $45, later recovered $39 with a deputy’s help. Monmouth police joined the investigation after a claim that £52 was taken by a Gypsy.
Mrs Mildred Howell and Mrs Blanche Young bought the former Skipton cafe from Rex Smith and now operate it as Cozy Lunch. Jennie Rath remains as cook. They plan interior changes and several improvements in the near future.

Jack Mace and Frances Ral aston opened the meeting with flag ceremony but John Lemmon and Russell Knott were away duck hunting leaving Major Saul to lead. Knights of Columbus lodge conducted a memorial service Sunday afternoon at 2 in the KC hall for about thirty five members. Rev. H J Corcoran led the service and J M Kelly delivered the eulogy. Approximately twenty deceased members were included. Tomorrow night ten council members will travel to Iowa City for a district meeting officiated by the state deputy and state secretary.
Official canvass confirms Lt. Gov. N. G. Kraschel gained 99 votes county wide compared with unofficial returns. Wilson led with 4,759 to Kraschel's 3,893. county totals show a margin of 866 for Wilson.
Word from the Jungbluth family in Rochester reports their son Peter remains under Mayo hospital care and is hoped to respond quickly to Rochester treatment after several weeks of ill health.
Armistice Day events planned in Washington include an 11 AM high school program and a 6:30 PM Y M C A. banquet for veterans, with Major L T Saul replacing Prof Clarence Updegr graft due to official business in Washington DC.

Sheriff Harold M Putnam, after fingerprinting Tony Matovac, said the destitute man will remain for a few days while in poor health before any further steps. Matovac, a native of Dalmatia who came to America in 1913, wandered west after losing work in Chicago. He says he has no family and has had little to eat.
Reports from Madrid describe rebel forces using tanks and planes to assault the city while loyalist defenders hold the line. The foreign legion and various national units resist in Western Madrid as aerial bombardment continues. civilians suffer widespread damage and casualties.
Washington observes Education Week with a Friday night program at the high school starting at 7 30. Supt EB A Ralston announces an open house where all 68 district teachers greet parents and host entertainment and refreshments. Charles E Miller will deliver an address on education. Music and other features accompany the event. Afterward the school rooms will remain open for inspection by the public.
Mr and Mrs Ed Mayh and daughter Ruth Maxine visited Orvilly Kemp in Lone Tree on Sunday. B F Crayne of West Chester accompanied them. no criminal record noted but fingerprints were taken as routine.
