Hollywood star Don Ameche will help pick the Dolphin show queen and four attendants at the University of Iowa event. Twenty candidates from sororities and dormitories compete for the title on November 25 26 and 27 in Iowa City.
State police radio broadcast says the Letts post office was robbed of 200 in 3 cent stamps and 40 in cash. A .38 pistol two wrecking bars and two cartons of smoking tobacco were also taken in the robbery.
Iowa State College chemistry head Dr. W. F. Coover said a Hammton area farmer reported pigs dying apparently from gas. The farmer described hogs dying suddenly, prompting questions about possible combustion or gas leakage effects on livestock.
Ottumwa reports Wilbur Clarkson was arraigned on operating an auto with improper license plates and had already served 66 days on a charge carrying a 30 day sentence. An additional one day sentence was imposed to show the charge had been officially acted upon.

Charles McDuff a 78 year old farmer husked 100 bushels of corn in a single day after a 20 year lull. He had practiced at 70 to 80 bushels daily before speeding up to reach the 100 goal from sunup to sundown following a neighbor wager.

Supt. E A Ralston of Washington schools has been chosen to join the executive committee of the Iowa state teachers association. The nine-member panel includes one member from each district group and two at large. He replaces former president Supt. W G Brooks of Burlington, now elected president of an Illinois college.

Funeral services for Ray Bickford who died unexpectedly at his Wellman area home will be held Friday at 2 30 p m with the Wellman Methodist pastor in charge. Burial is in Wellman cemetery. Ray L Bickford was born May 19 1888 in Washington Iowa and died Nov 9 1937 after a short illness. He married Opal Romine in 1913 and they lived in Seventy Six township.

In Santa Rosa, 79 year old rancher Thomas Elliott used a Chinese two edged sword to sever the left hand of a masked bandit who demanded money after entering his home. Elliott lost his own left hand to the intruder and later died in hospital from wounds. The bandit, wearing a bean sack mask, carried a big knife.
