Smokey the Bear Dies at National Zoo
Old Smokey Bear, a 26 year old black bear and symbol of fire prevention, died in his sleep at the National Zoo. A Forest Service spokeswoman said it was due to old age after the bear stopped coming out of his cage and was watched daily.
