North Vietnamese assault near Loc Ninh triggers fierce clashes as U S forces counter with B52 strikes. Across Vietnam and nearby fronts, combat fatalities rise with 178 American deaths in the week and 1 628 Communist casualties reported. Helicopter rescues included three of five downed airmen.
The Saturn V blasted from Cape Kennedy at 7 a.m. EST on a flawless maiden mission, lifting the unmanned Apollo capsule into two earth orbits and igniting the third stage in orbit to hurl the craft toward the moon. Officials called the launch "incredibly well" with a strong prospect of moon landing readiness by 1970 as spectators cheered the towering rocket and its 36 stories of power.
Iowa Tax Commission reports 1967 assessments of utilities and railroads at 740,237,902 dollars, up 36,816,517 from 1966. The rise covers electric gas and pipeline firms, transmission lines, private water firms, telephone companies and railroads across counties audited by officials.

The 11-6 party line vote would raise 23 million Americans by 15 percent, with minimum payments up from 40 to 70 monthly starting April 3, totaling $3.6 billion in 1968 and $6 billion in 1969. If approved, the bill goes to the Senate then back to the House for concurrence.

Hephner and an accomplice allegedly demanded gas, drew a gun, and fled as the other man escaped.
