The Advisory Committee on Area Schools recommended six regional districts for vocational schools or junior colleges in Iowa. Eleven other proposals were deferred for study, with next meeting set for December 3. Protest Against Hate Torch Man Burns Self in NY
A 22 year old pacifist Roger Laporte set fire to his clothing with gasoline in front of the United Nations seeking to protest war and hatred. He suffered severe burns of about 95 percent of his body and remained in very poor condition. Police and witnesses described the scene at 42nd Street and First Avenue near the UN headquarters with a Daily News driver as the sole observer.

Keota Omer Carl Klett 59 of Fairfield died at home in Fairfield. County medical examiner Dr C F Watson reported Klett took his own life by hanging. A retired farmer, he formerly lived in the Valley area between Richland and Keota before moving to Fairfield. Born August 16 1906 in Keokuk County to George and Mary Klett, he married Hazel Fowler on November 11 1928. Survivors include his widow two sons Roger and Ronald of Fairfield a daughter Betty Johnson of Oak Park Illinois his mother Mrs George Klett of Rubio nine grandchildren one sister Mrs Beatrice Carris of Keota.
