United Nations committee backs fast ban on nuclear spread
The General Assembly committee approved by 83 to 0 a nonaligned draft calling for an early negotiated treaty to bar spread of nuclear weapons. Eight nations including Brazil India Mexico Sweden and the United Arab Republic and six abstentions drove the measure amid disarmament tensions at Geneva. The vote emphasized a loophole free treaty to curb both nuclear and nonnuclear proliferation.

Missing coed found in Frisco Iowa City coed located in San Francisco
Iowa authorities said 18-year-old Patricia Aten Madden, a University of Iowa coed and daughter of the city Public Works Director, was found in San Francisco after a cross country bus conversation led to her location. Deputy Sheriff Francis Sueppel credited James Alexander, 27, who met Madden on the bus, with the crucial tip. He learned where she was staying and notified police after getting off the bus in Des Moines.

Accident injures three near Wayland on Highway 78
Mrs. Jim Brooks of Wayland and two Keokuk women, Dorothy McNeight and her mother Sarah Post, were hospitalized Saturday morning after a near head on collision three miles east of Wayland on Highway 78. The Brooks car was traveling south on a curve while the McNeight vehicle was northbound. Damages were estimated at 2000 dollars for the Brooks car and the McNeight car was a total wreck. the Keokuk women were moved to a Keokuk hospital.

Heavy Weekend Toll as Iowa Roads Kill Ten
Ten people died in Iowa traffic accidents this weekend, raising the 1965 toll to 647 with five more fatalities Sunday. Victims include Helen Olson of Arvada Colorado in a fog crash on Iowa 21 near Elberon, and Robert Kaune of Marion in a fog crash on Iowa 150 near Center Point.
