Davenport official G French reports a large duck migration over Iowa with unusually high sightings. In Washington the food administration extends fluid milk control to Cedar Rapids and Waterloo limiting sales to June levels and by products to three quarters of June sales.
Black Hawk High School bi weekly poll shows 1 005 to 693 against compulsory military service for boys 17 to 21. Girls oppose 643 to 268. boys 425 to 860 favor. A postwar voluntary service plan earns 1 078 in favor and 167 against, with girls nearly all voting for it and only 7 boys in favor.
Forty five officers and directors from ice cream firms across seven states met in Des Moines at a Midwest FDA regional session. They declared ice cream remains a dairy product despite butterfat cuts to 8 percent and opposed substituting soybean or other foreign solids in its manufacture.
Two boys were in critical condition at Mercy hospital after a car crash at Doliver State Park. Donald Weinzeil, 9, and Robert Fuller, 14, were riding with injuries including a fractured skull and crushed ribs respectively.
Juror shortage forced a delay in the murder trial of Sunley M. Easter 85 of Dunesville charged with the killing of Glenn Winchell a Waverly utilities guard on Sept 25. Judge Thomas A. Beardmore excused 34 of about 80 prospective jurors in Bremer county district court as excuses were accepted.
Tonight at eight o clock the Washington high school hosts a musical Education Week program in the auditorium. Students from high and junior high groups perform under directors Boyd White and Ralph Young followed by informal teacher visits and refreshments in first floor homemaking rooms. London reports Prime Minister Churchill told the Lord Mayor’s luncheon the allies have broken the back of the U boat war and damaged German cities. He warned against over confidence while noting Hitler still has 400 divisions and that 1944 could see the European war reach a climax.

Des Moines reports Iowa coal operators agreed to reopen mines under the new wage scale while Gov Bourke B Hickenlooper negotiates a higher coal price ceiling. About 1 500 miners work in 4 900 to 5 900 tons daily, roughly a third of state output. Operators had refused to reopen last week, claiming operation at a loss without OPA price ceiling relief.
Government officials predicted that about 1.1 million non operating railway employees would vote to strike against a government approved four to ten cent an hour wage increase but an actual walkout would not occur. Officials said railroads would stay running regardless of the vote outcome.
The county war price and rationing board announced that no more copies of War Ration Books one and two will be issued. All stamps in these books have expired except shoe stamp 18 in Book one and blue stamps X Y Z in Book Two which remain valid for ra tioned processed foods through specified dates.

Banquet at 6:30 in the Y rooms features speaker T L Brookhart and song led by Herbert Osincup.
A Washington post office bulletin from the War Department urges that Christmas greeting cards for soldiers overseas be mailed in sealed envelopes and prepaid at the first class rate. Cards should be mailed at once to reach APOs by December.
The county AAA office reports 90 milk subsidy applications by November 8 totaling 1,007 hundredweight of milk and 618 pounds of butterfat, with a net payment of 9606.84 for eight days. Farmers are urged to submit cream tickets or proof to the AAA office before November 30 to complete payments.
Private Charles R. Atkinson arrived home Sunday evening from Camp Hood Texas on a twelve day furlough to spend time with his parents Marsh and Atkinson. After his stay he will be transferred to the air corps and report to Keesler Field Mississippi on November 24.

Rome see anti Nazi demonstrations while US Fifteenth Air Force targets Fiat Turin. Russian forces push 45 miles west of Kiev in a three pronged advance.
