More than 500 sick and absent voter ballots were cast in yesterday's election, an all time Muscatine county record. Officials said the previous record from 1932 stood at 369.
Adel on Water Brook 17 was killed near Adel when he slipped from the tractor he was plowing and was caught beneath the plow. The tragedy occurred as the work continued in the field.
Mayor Frank Van Bushirk led opposition to building a power plant intended to power Shenandoah’s water works. He urged the council to reverse a 4 to 1 vote approving engineers’ plans for the project.
New Hampton deputy state game warden F H Davis filed charges against E H Kemp Alta Vista for carrying an assembled gun in a car. Kemp pleaded guilty in Alta Vista Mayor J White's court and paid a 10 dollar fine. Leonard Marvets Bassett and Leonard Hirsch New Hampton paid 14 dollar fines in CC. A Uphams wife pleaded guilty to carrying an assembled gun in his automobile.
A shipment of 11000 baby registration cards arrived at the state department of health from the census bureau in Washington Be. Cards were sent to Iowa homes for registration and then returned to Washington for data notation before reentering Town Tuesday. About 40000 babies are born in Town each year. the received and still at the census bureau cards total about three fourths, leaving roughly 10000 unaccounted for. Nine fieldmen are currently checking up on registrations in town.
A survey by Iowa State Park Planning Board engineers maps Idlewild Park and riverbank land west of Iowa Falls to assess potential state park sites. The 50 acre plot was reduced from an initial 240 acres due to landowner negotiations as part of 19 statewide park projects under study.

Judge Frank Beehly of Mont ezuma opened the November term of district court today in a formal session addressing calendar matters and preliminary proceedings.
Shelby county voters defeated a plan to build a county hospital in Harlan by a two to one margin. The project would have cost fifty thousand dollars. The visit notes Mr and Mrs F F P Farris of Kinross as business visitors with party affiliations mentioned.

Mrs. Howard Dawson was arrested on a neighbor’s complaint and jailed in the county jail. She was placed under $500 peace bonds by Justice of the Peace J E Bovee. Her two children were taken to the hospital for care and treatment.

About 20 000 to 25 000 fans expected for the Purdue Iowa football game in Iowa City on Saturday. Charles Galther, business manager of athletics, says tickets are moving steadily as veterans from Dad's Day and American Legion posts join the crowd. Senate leaders Robinson and Fess lost in Indiana and Ohio, with Joseph Guffey winning Pennsylvania and becoming its first Democrat since 1875. Tammany regained a foothold in New York City politics as Upton Sinclair was defeated in California. Kansas kept dry while California liberalized liquor laws.
Reports from campaign aides and county officials show Congressman Edward C. Eicher winning reelection by more than 8 000 votes over E R Hicklin. Final tallies for five of eleven counties show Eicher ahead in Washington 830, in Iowa 925, Cedar 659, Muscatine 93, and Louisa 520. projections include gains in Jefferson and Henry counties and possible losses in Van Buren.
