Six candidates vie for two six year seats on the Washington County Hospital Board. Incumbents Richard Ross and Hazel Sitler face four challengers Richard Knupp Frank Patterson Jeanne Shaffer and Juanita Stransky. Each presents plans to improve staffing efficiency funding and regional access to care.

Cash missing at Harrison's Store sparks police inquiry
City police responded to Harrison's Store on the east side of the square where about $70 was reported missing from a cash register. No signs of forcible entry were found and the investigation continues as authorities review clues. Nearby, a hog house on the Robert Friese farm north of Washington burned completely, but nearby buildings were saved. The fire alarm sounded at 12 58 am and fire crews used the Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. truck to reach the scene. Friese had reportedly moved several hogs from the house Saturday before the blaze, and cause remains undetermined. Firefighters also responded to a second call at the Don Holmes farm five miles south and one mile west of Coppock road where a corn picker was reported on fire. Dr. K J Marshall of Washington announced plans to leave the community for Arizona around year’s end to join a medical clinic there after practicing locally for several years.
