Funeral services set for Les Mark family victims

Four members of the Les Mark family slain near Cedar Falls will be buried in Trinity United Methodist Church Cedar Falls Tuesday at 2 p.m. Mrs. Mark former Jorjean Colthurst of Ainsworth reared there. Authorities continue a large investigation with no clear leads.

Polls Open 7 to 9 In Washington County Tuesday

Election day details show polls open 7 am to 9 pm in all Washington County towns except Crawfordsville which opens at 12 pm and closes 9 pm. Polling locations listed include the county courthouse Second Ward 618 N 6th Ave city hall and Perdocks Garage. Eight candidates seek three City Council seats and one Park Board vacancy in Washington. A moderate turnout is expected. Washington (UPI) Supreme Court agrees to decide if Nixon and Ford illegally imposed import fees, a political issue used by Ford to push Congress on energy policy.

Record lands fetch Iowa high at auction

Washington County buyers set a new record with 3 010 dollars per acre for 200 acres sold by Mr and Mrs Earl Redlinger. Mike Wheelan bought the land four miles north of Washington on highway 92 at one fourth mile west, a prime level farm. The price surpassed 2 860 dollars per acre paidWeeks earlier and is believed to be Iowa’s new state high.

Voter interest in county races across Iowa towns

Voters head to polls in multiple Iowa cities to elect municipal officials. Riverside shows an unopposed mayor with a crowded council field and a lone treasurer candidate. Wellman has a clear mayoral winner and four for three council seats. Kalona, West Chester, Brighton, Crawfordsville, Keota, Nayland, Columbus Junction all list mixed contests or write-ins for mayor and council seats, with term lengths mostly two or four years.

Iowa to Hold Six Hearings on School Finance November 11 Washington

Social Services hearing set for November 12 in county

The Iowa Department of Social Services will hold Title XX public hearings statewide to gather input on funding for the state social services program. One session is scheduled in the Washington County courthouse supervisors room on Wednesday November 12 at 1 30 p m. Estate planning meetings begin in Wellman and Washington

County residents attend the first session led by Pete Buffer of Kalona as an estate planning resource. The series covers property forms such as fee simple and life estate and includes joint tenancy and tenancy in common, with further meetings slated in Washington on November 4, 11, 18 and 25 and Wellman on November 6, 20 and December 5.
