Camp Lejeune Marine’s string of misfortunes with pets and injuries
At Camp Lejeune North Carolina Marine Pfc Thomas Byrd petted a cat that proved to be a skunk later. He was stung by a hornet the next day and bitten by a rattlesnake the following day. After discharge from the hospital he stubbed his toe on the steps and limped back to bed.

Des Moines police suspect a short white haired man who robbed Central National Bank and Trust of 15000 dollars Monday is the same man who robbed a Detroit bank on May 5. Detective Robert OBrien cited similar notes body writing and wording and comparable descriptions for both robberies.

Eight Dead and Seventeen Wounded in Prison Riots
In Korea near Koje Island Allied guards killed four North Korean war prisoners during a riot at compound 86. Two POWs died on the scene and two more died later. Four guards were questioned at Brig Gen Boatner's headquarters. Three civilian internees were killed and one and a half per cent injured in separate rioting.
