In Des Moines the Iowa State Democratic convention ended in unruly scenes after selecting an uninstructed 24 vote delegation to the national convention. Unofficial results show most delegates leaning toward Senator Estes Kefauver, with at least 10 delegates split in support for the Tennessee senator.
Vacation Bible School begins at Christian Tabernacle Monday June 2 at 9 a.m. to noon for two weeks with handwork crafts and supervised recess culminating in a Friday program. Delegates debated presidential preference at a stormy storm platform meeting amid party tensions in Marshall County with adjournment motions and sentiment voting discussions.
The Senate defeated a Republican move to end wage and price controls on June 30. Debate followed on extending controls to March 1 and continuing the Defense Production Act for one year, including rent, consumer credit, and allocations controls. Government reports showed rising retail food prices, sparking warnings from Sen. Burnet Maybank that ending controls would be a tragedy.
A fake WAVER campus radio bulletin claiming Russian planes bombed London and Marseille caused alarm among Cornell students. Masked entrants seized the studio for eight minutes, interrupting music with bulletins about bombs and planes, jamming campus switchboards.

In Des Moines Judge Dring Needham overruled the defense motion for a directed verdict of acquittal for John Masterson 24 charged with stabbing his former sweetheart Theresa O Connor 24 at Ambrose Cathedral. The state rested and the defense challenged malice and the torn dress evidence and Masterson confessed to police.
Most Washington business houses will be closed on Memorial Day following their usual custom. Theaters, restaurants and some other establishments may stay open or close according to their own holiday policies.
Gen Dwight D Eisenhower arrives in Washington Sunday afternoon after resigning as NATO supreme commander. He turns over NATO to Gen Matthew Ridgway in a ceremony at SHAPE attended by representatives of 14 allied nations. Eisenhower holds a final informal press conference before leaving headquarters.
U.S. and British forces moved into Koje Island prison camps using tear gas and rifles to split about 60 000 prisoners into smaller groups for transfer. Brig. Gen. Haydon L. Boatner ordered the operation to regain control and begin reorganization, with guards and machine guns in place as prisoners were grouped for movement.
The A S C club meets in the Methodist church Fellowship room for a 1 pm luncheon with 17 members. Officers installed include Louise Wade as president and Charlotte Sloeket secretary, with year-end reports given. Next meeting set for September. Several local residents noted travel, visits, and home remodels.

Ninety eight Washington high school seniors were awarded diplomas Wednesday night at the Washington Methodist church during the second annual commencement. Dr. Clark G. Kuebler of Ripon College spoke, with remarks about continued learning and independent thought.
Funeral services for I. C. Shelangoski will be held at 9 o'clock Friday morning in the Fairfield Catholic church. Burial will be in the East Pleasant Plain cemetery. Mr. Shelangoski died at Fairfield Wednesday morning.
The Washington YMCA reveals its summer timetable starting June 22 with daily and midweek slots for grade school junior high and high school boys and mixed groups. Activities include swimming periods craft shops softball learn to swim and evening sessions with special events planned Fridays and Bible school weeks feature afternoon swims on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Artemas Brown, YMCA secretary, offers three pups of unknown lineage to anyone willing to provide homes. Call 23 to inquire.
Parents of children seven years and older are urged to register for the YMCA learn to swim classes starting Monday June 2. There is no charge and registration requires an entry blank or contacting Artemas Brown at the YMCA. Classes run morning for boys and afternoon for girls with each session lasting 230 minutes.
Nearly perfect weather was forecast for the Memorial day weekend as millions of Americans planned long drives. The National Safety Council projected about 10 persons will die in traffic with 5 million vehicles on roads from 6 PM today through midnight Sunday. Weather officials warned Friday should be fair with possible scattered showers along the Atlantic seaboard, Great Plains, and Pacific Coast.
Jacques Duclos, chief of the French Communist Party, was jailed on charges of acting against internal security as clashes flared in Paris after Gen. Ridgway’s return. The CGT urged two million members to assemble, strike, and demand his liberation amid a crackdown on Communists.
The WCTU Medal speech contest will be held in the Sunday school room of the Presbyterian church on Saturday evening May 21 at 7 20. The event concludes the contest started by Mrs Blanche DeKoning and the public is invited to attend.
Daily Vacation Bible school sessions sponsored by cooperating Washington churches will run at Lincoln school starting Monday morning June 9. Children four years and older may attend regardless of church membership. Classes meet 9 to 11:30 a.m. and YMCA swimming follows in the afternoon. No charge for the Bible school, offerings accepted in departments.
Partly cloudy conditions are noted in the west with fair weather in the east this afternoon. Highs reach 68 to 76 degrees with scattered showers and a warmer night. Showers end Friday then cooler west, with showers east continuing into Saturday morning before clearing partly cloudy skies.
