John Pauls Named 1952 ISU Top Honor Graduate

John Pauls of Washington was named the top honor graduate of the Iowa State College class of 1952. He carried a 3.893 four year average in science statistics and earned the Phi Kappa Phi scholastic award plus a life membership in the Alumni Association. He and his wife Margaret DeLashmutt are visiting in Washington.

Handicapped Children Enjoy Picnic at Earl Davis Farm

A group of Iowa City handicapped children from the school enjoyed a grove picnic on the Earl Davis farm south of Washington Friday. It marked the second annual outing, with doctors, parents, and hospital workers in attendance. Local residents aided the event as Mrs. Marvin Jobst visited to care for her mother after surgery at Washington County Hospital.

Boy Scout Leaders Complete Training in Washington County

Nine adult leaders received certificates for completing a week long Boy Scout training course in Wellman Iowa this week. Crackdown on Communists Grips Paris and Nationwide

In Paris they seized documents and weapons, arrested about 30 suspects, and cleared the seven story building while other cities faced swift raids on regional bureaus. Three Iowan Memorial Day Weekend Highway Fatalities

Three Iowans died in Memorial Day weekend highway crashes within 24 hours. Anne Allwood, 20, Kansas City, was killed near Audubon on the way to her wedding. Charles G. Lewis, airman, 30, Ayshire, said to have fallen asleep at the wheel during a 30 day leave. Edith Miller, 70, Burlington, and Winogene Anderson, 64, Eagle Grove, died from injuries in Waterloo hospital. Merle Anderson, La Porte City, survived with minor injuries after a separate wreck 128 miles north of Waterloo.

Funeral services for Mildred Stewart held at United Presbyterian

Mildred Stewart's funeral was conducted at 2:30 PM Friday in the United Presbyterian church with Dr. E. L. Haney presiding and Rev. Frank Galloway of Cedar Rapids assisting. Robert Everetts sang, John Yousling played organ, and attendees included the 1951 high school class, church youth group, and American Legion auxiliary. Pallbearers were Edward Wolfe, Jay Brewer, William McDonnell, Earl Galloway, Glen Thompson, and Charles Wiley. Sherman's funeral home handled arrangements.

In Paris Arkansas a 12 dog heirs to the $40,000 estate of Otis Arbuckle a retired rural mail carrier. Upon the dogs' deaths the real estate remains intact until then and several named relatives receive $100 each. The cash portion goes to the Democratic campaign fund after specified bequests.

Berlin Commands Reds to Stop Blocking U.S. Patrols

General Thomas Handy, U.S. commander in Europe, demanded Moscow halt blocking American patrols on the mile Lifeline highway between Berlin and western Germany. He warned Soviet action cannot be condoned and urged immediate steps to stop interference.
