The author recalls Decoration Day traditions with children marching beside veterans Col. D. J. Palmer and William Paul Moothart, led by Women’s Relief Corps wreath makers and American Legion efforts. She mentions Memorial Day programs at St. James school, and notes local travel, school graduations, and small town anecdotes from Monmouth and Des Moines. The piece closes with memories of a porch visit, a lost pin found at the English Hotel, and a pine resin smell from Florida.
