Fifty-two boys and forty-eight girls in Washington county finish rural school coursework and receive high school entrance certificates. Sixty-two attended the ceremony despite bad weather. Dr. W. W. Bowers urged good habits and truth in thinking.

Lockhart Leads At 50th Mile In Auto Race

Indianapolis May 30 Frank Lockhart leads five leaders at the 50th mile in the speedway race with a pace of 106.93 mph the Elgin Piston Pin Special driven by Frank Koblert returns to action while Jack Petticord’s Boyle Valve Special exits to the pits and Ralph Hepburn drops from fifth after 24 laps as McDonough moves into fifth.

Mrs. Wm Nelson aged 82 long respected in Keola died Sunday at 1 15 p m Mr Nelson a civil war veteran and Mrs Nelson recently observed their 59th wedding anniversary Funeral services set for Tuesday May 31 at 2 20 p m at United Presbyterian church with interment in Keota Cone cemetery

Four Aviators Die In Plane Explosion At Augusta Field

Four United States army aviators die when their plane explodes 500 feet above the Sun day air field near Augusta Georgia after takeoff from San Antonio Texas en route to Langley Field Virginia. The crew: Second Lieutenant Don Voorhees Sergeant Clifford Glenn Staff Sergeant James Read Corporal Melvin Andrews. Workers could not reach the wreckage before the men burned. Bodies were charred and later removed for burial. Nine planes were set to depart but three stayed behind as the victims were buried. Six planes that had started earlier returned to the field after the crash.

Chicago May 30 A liquor probe focused on the University of Chicago midway after a student died at a gin party. Nine men including a druggist are under arrest with charges expected. Investigators note officials had warned of alcohol abuse among students and sought government raids.

Missionary Mrs. Alma Holland and 22 years in India

Mrs Alma Hearne Holland spoke at the Methodist church during the annual bank offering for the missionary societies. She has spent 22 years in Raipur central province India, directing a school and planning expansion. The service raised nearly $500.
