Four United States army aviators die when their plane explodes 500 feet above the Sun day air field near Augusta Georgia after takeoff from San Antonio Texas en route to Langley Field Virginia. The crew: Second Lieutenant Don Voorhees Sergeant Clifford Glenn Staff Sergeant James Read Corporal Melvin Andrews. Workers could not reach the wreckage before the men burned.
