168 seniors from Washington High School’s Class of 1969 were recognized at the 99th annual commencement program held in the school gym. Four seniors spoke, 22 shared in 23 scholarships totaling over 5200 dollars for higher education. Recipients included Mary Christine Lechner and Debra Ann Roth among many others from local clubs and organizations.

Fish Day at Lake Darling Aids Handicapped Children
Eighteen handicapped children from Children's Hospital Iowa City attended Lake Darling for the annual Fish Day sponsored by the Izaak Walton League. The event, aiding stock of bullheads from the State Conservation Commission, ended with a picnic at the league clubhouse and awards. Iowa City group winners included Terry Kasperson with 41 fish and Jimmie Kent Muscatine with the longest catch. Washington group winner was Doug Witte toe with 15 fish. others received dual honors for least fish and first catch.

Only One Severe Penalty For Iowa Truckers
Five trucking firms faced oversized load violations as the Iowa Highway Commission acted. International Transport Inc of Rochester Minnesota received a five day permit denial starting June 15, halting single trip oversized permits. Warren Transport of Waterloo had the harshest penalties among firms with annual permits, including suspensions totaling 30 to 45 days and a 30 day ban on new permits. Howe Truck Line of Stanhope and Matson Inc of Cedar Rapids each had one annual permit suspended for 30 days. The commission chairman called the action a serious mistake for not assessing impact before voting.
