In Ainsworth last evening a couple were killed by Reverend Thorn’s actions, while Alvin Norman, son of Foreman Norman on the Narrow Gauge, narrowly escaped serious injuries this morning. A ball rolling into the street led two passing teams a bread wagon and a Sam Logan driven buggy to collide, crippling the boy’s left shoulder and leg. he was carried home, initially feared gravely hurt but later found with only bruises.
Yesterday afternoon A. H. McCarty and Ettie Johnson, residents near Brighton, obtained a marriage license at the county clerk's office and were united in wedlock by Rev. Thorn, pastor of the Methodist church at their residence.
County assessors finished canvassing their townships and turned in all books to the county auditor except two. They also submitted crop statistics, which will be generalized and provided to JOURNAL readers once ready.
Li Richardson a respected resident died yesterday afternoon at his family home near Ainsworth from stomach cancer. He was 60, born in Galva County Ohio, lived in Iowa forty years, leaves a wife and four children. A. A. W. lodge members will attend his funeral Friday at 10 AM, burial in Ainsworth cemetery.
Attorney Folger circulates among locals a petition requesting Gov Drake release Albert Mekhinstry from a nine month jail sentence while leaving the hundred dollar cost fee intact. The wording is not seen and details remain unknown.
Major J.D. Glasgow reports Gen Wright of Des Moines and Col Jackson of Muscatine will be here Saturday for Decoration Day exercises. They will inspect grounds as potential site for the next regimental encampment. Citizens urged to welcome them and aid in making the event a success.
Last night the Tuesday Knight Club hosted a dancing party for about twenty three couples. The Italian Orchestra provided beautiful music making it one of the nicest parties of the season.

A letter from Mrs. Chas Knickerbocker of Jackson Michigan extols Postum Cereal Food Coffee as a harmless nourishing substitute for coffee. Mrs J M Kilgore of Northwest Washington received a telegram that her husband rank White was killed by lightning this morning. The remains were sent to this city likely arriving tonight or tomorrow. White, a Curtis Colorado rancher, had lived in Pontoos HL near Keokuk, married Miss Urban of Pontoos, and was well liked here. The Journal will report further details tomorrow.
The Second U PL church Junior Endeavor forwarded sixty dollars to Steve Lytle for a missionary trip to India to aid famine relief. Credit for starting the donation goes to Mr Pinkerton with additional support from the ALA and OUW members. The notice also calls for funeral attendance in Richardson and city decoration efforts.
Park Commissioners and Public Grounds Committee members urged to remove long weeds and grass and rake the park to make it presentable by the coming Saturday.
