The Washington Sash and Door Co located in the Novelty Work building offers screens for summer use. Customers are advised to visit the shop to select styles and sizes suitable for homes and porches.
The ad touts Stuart's as offering more meat for a dollar than competitors at one dollar photos. It highlights smoked meats, bacon, hams, salt fish, mackerel, White Fish, yearling beeves, veal pork and poultry, plus fresh fish vegetables and a full line of canned meats and pickled items.
The advertisement proclaims the season for soda water and ice cream with all flavors and states that the shop offers the best ice cream in the city and superior soda water.
Robt Blair returned from Winfield this morning Mrs G W Dye left for Oskaloosa. J Hite and Howard Stiles went to Keola to buy horses. Phil Grassell returned from Chicago with stock. Smith's Laundry advertised. Cashier Spaulding of Ainsworth returned home. Rev A L Davidson went to Ainsworth for services at the U P B church. Mr and Mrs J Sherfey of Burlington guests of W N Hood. C N Badger offers roses carnations for Decoration Day. Ice Cream Soda at Glasgow Lytle's. R G Gilbert of Mains returned with W P Moothart of Northwestern Life Ins Co. One day more to secure a high grade piano at factory cost, saving $100. Hallet & Davis Co. Mrs W S Tuttle and daughter from Hull IA left for Fairfield then Marshalltown for state W R C convention. She had not visited Washington in 35 years.
Earl and Frank Newcomb, 12, left home after a school dispute and a day of aimless wandering. They walked from Perlee to Washington and rode freight to Fredonia before being stopped at Letts by local railroad staff. Their father arrived, planning to walk them home, and noted the boys learned a lesson about home life. The boys had taken $1.70 earned by themselves and may have intended to reach Bloomfield, Illinois.
The report notes fair conditions tonight with possible light frost and cooler air in the eastern part. Saturday will be warmer with a rise in temperatures across the state.
Beaver Falls Pennsylvania May 26 the Reformed Presbyterian Synod convened Rev T P P Robb of Sharon was elected moderator at the session Morning Sun News notes the gathering and leadership.
The Ladies' Aid Society of the Christian church will serve dinner and supper in the room formerly occupied by Row and Nichols on the north side square. Ice cream and cake will be offered. Date is Saturday May 29.
Yesterday Washington Red and Guy Club held a practice target shoot with scores tallied. Participants include Wallace Rodman Schott Dixon Glasgow Bailey and others with totals listed alongside individual targets in a detail filled but garbled chart from the Washington club event.
From Rock Island Illinois May 27 the Evening Journal reports the U P L General Assembly opening. A large Central Presbyterian church crowd heard Rev James White’s sermon on Micah 3 8 and the harmonious Rock Island Ministerial Union welcome. J H Hanna D D of Monmouth was elected Moderator with K E N MeKilee DD the other candidate. Reports from boards show extensive work and strong attendance.
News comes of a surprise wedding at Brookfield Mo between Will Evans of Brighton and Ida Watters of Washington. Evans, once of Brighton and later a city resident, wed Miss Watters, a former city schoolteacher. The couple’s future residence is not yet announced.
Mrs R T McCall purchased a 1500 stock of fresh millinery described as the swellest line in the city. Prices cut to 50c on the dollar to move the entire stock in a week. The assortment includes Rich Seahorns Fancy Braid Panama Sailor Hats and rich ribbons. Sale begins tomorrow and is urged for early shoppers.
The N. T. A. Club met yesterday at Mrs. J. M. Bratton's home for a pleasant afternoon. Refreshments were served to guests. The group plans biweekly meetings during winter, and this gathering marked the season’s last, enjoyed by all members.
Last evening at Mal colm Smith’s home on Sipourney road the marriage of Chas Brown and Jennie Nevins, both residents of this city, was performed by Rev Jobt Cray. The bride lived at the Rent House and the groom, a painter, arrived last fall. The Journal extends congratulations.
The speaking event will be at the new Elm Grove cemetery after grave decorations with Governor Fr. M. Drake delivering the address. If rain interrupts the program will be moved to The Graham Opera House for the address and program attendees.
The church holds daily preparatory services for communion on Sunday. Tomorrow evening the presiding elder Dr J C W Coxe will lead preaching. All members and friends are invited to attend.
Work continues today on decorating and arranging the city as business leaders and residents follow up on cemetery cleanup. If weather holds, ten thousand people are expected in the city, reflecting the season's activity.
The post office will close tomorrow at noon due to a legal holiday. Citizens are urged to collect mail early before the shutdown.
Roy Foss faced a charge in Justice Roger's court last evening and the case was dismissed. Both boys promised to be more careful in the future, and it was Roy's first time facing this charge.
Wednesday while working on a new sewer in the north end contractor We. WH. Smith was buried by a cave in at about nine feet depth. He suffered bruises and will remain off the ditch for several days.
All old soldiers are asked to meet at Grand Armory Hall on Saturday the 29th at 7 20 a.m. to decorate graves of deceased comrades in local cemeteries. J M LaTin 21 Chairman Executive Committee. Dr Geo Lanning traveled from Keota last evening and returned this morning.

Early today a large party departed the city for a social outing in the woods. Included among the travelers were Mr and Mrs N M Richer Mr Frack Steck Mr Harry Bell Mr Frank Brindley and Mr Leigh Wallace, with their children in tow.
RR Lane introduces a new non alcoholic fruit cordial named A Jo Wan. The beverage is described as delicious and stimulating to the digestive organs. Brock, a modern pop figure, supplies the market with Dost products.
