Our Debt to Fallen Heroes Sermon Recalled in Services

In a Presbyterian setting Rev. H. R. Stark preached on honoring those who sacrificed for country and faith. Sam Barnett Burns Hands In Gasoline Lamp Accident

A weekend fire injured Sam Barnett as he attempted to heat water with a gasoline lamp. After filling the lamp, he held the wick to the flame for about ten seconds, igniting his clothing and hands. He escaped by extinguishing the flames, will be limited to light work for a week or more, while the hall and shop remained undamaged.

Old Coin Found in Muscatine Sewer Wall

In Muscatine a long disgraceful creek sewer is being walled over and widened. George Warren helped bricklayers and found an 1805 half dollar with a tilt head in the slime. He sold the coin to Ralph Dougherty for his collection. its origin remains speculative. May 25 Wellman. Mary Krueger wed Grant Griffith in Washington.

Chicken Thieves Take Seven Guineas and Five Chickens

Saturday night burglars raided Major T Osborne’s coop stealing seven guineas and five chickens. A separate remark condemns laziness and reliance on others for a living, urging removal of such people from the city.
