Playing three no trump in a scarce contract from Becker

In three no trump with South as dealer you should win the spade lead with the ace and inspect diamonds with the king queen to judge 3-2 or 4-1 breaks. If diamonds prove 3-2, cash the ace of hearts and lead the jack of diamonds then force out the king to gain three heart tricks and establish dummy hearts. Diamonds 3-2 is likelier than clubs 3-3, so play diamonds first and treat them gently to maximize chances of making 3NT despite possible 4-1 diamond splits.
