Public safety chief protests 21 job cuts in Iowa plan
Iowa Public Safety Commissioner Michael Sellers protested a budget proposal to cut 1.3 million from the department for the biennium. He warned the loss includes a deputy commissioner and key staff, risking operations of the state’s fourth largest department. He urged subcommittee reconsideration and noted possible salary restoration could affect the Highway Patrol budget. The governor supported a higher two year appropriation of 22.3 million.
