War Bonuses Still Await 11 Iowans
DES MOINES Eleven Iowa World War veterans have checks totaling about 2000 waiting in the Iowa soldiers bonus board office. The board has sought to locate the veterans since the 1922 vote approved a 22 million dollar bonus. The average check is roughly 190 dollars and may be claimed by next of kin if the veteran is deceased. Edward H. Curtis, secretary of the bonus board, says efforts to locate the 11 individuals have failed despite newspaper and service magazine ads.
Farmer Lennie Mabhee Killed by Lightning Near Seymour
Lennie Mabhee a 55 year old farmer three miles south of Seymour was killed when lightning struck his barn and caused a fire. The blaze consumed the barn and Mabhee's body. coins welded in his pocket led to the belief the lightning was the cause. He left a wife and four children.

Seven year old boy dies after hog attack near Crawfordsville
Floyd Lee McDowell, seven, died at Washington county hospital after being attacked by a group of sows in a pasture near his home. He wandered into the enclosure while exploring a junk lot, and was rescued with great effort by neighbors and a traveling salesman before being taken to a doctor and then the hospital. He is survived by his parents James F. and Irene Thompson McDowell, his twin brother Lloyd, brothers Billy and Larry, and sister Clara Evelyn. Funeral services are set for Sunday at the Crawfordsville Methodist Church.
