Malpractice insurance measure sent to Senate
Iowa House gave unanimous approval to a bill creating a two year joint underwriting association to supply malpractice coverage when the regular market fails. It sets a six year statute of limitations, removes contingency fees and a medical panel, and limits policies to 1 million for individuals or 3 million for multiple practitioners. The measure seeks to calm doctors threatening to leave the state as premiums rise.

Landfill board accepts bid for site work near Richland
SEMCO executive board accepted the low bid of 81349 from C G McLeod Co of Indianola for site preparation and access road grading at the planned three county landfill near Richland. Barkers Inc of Iowa City bid 82724. DEQ says operating permit approved and in the mail. Officials plan to meet in Fairfield next Friday to review specifications and set letting dates for scale, scalehouse, and access road surfacing. The board also approved bills including 6762 to the Washington County engineer’s office.

Kim A Wasson of Wellman was sentenced by District Court Judge William S Cahill to six months in county jail with work release and a 10 year suspended term for resisting execution of due process after an April incident with Deputy Sheriff John Combs. Explosion traps workers at Davenport mill complex
An explosion ripped through the International Milling Co. silos in Davenport Iowa just after noon trapping a number of workers inside. The blast reportedly blew the silo tops and National Guard helicopters were dispatched to aid rescue efforts with ambulances from Davenport and Rock Island Ill. Arsenal. Off duty firefighters backed up on duty crews. No immediate casualties reported.
