Veteran Moore Keeps Twins Near Top
Ray Moore, aging but effective, earned his third win of the season in a 6-5 relief victory over the Washington Senators, helping the Minnesota Twins move into a virtual first place tie with the New York Yankees. Moore entered in the eighth with runners on, induced two pop-ups, then closed out the win as teammates Rich Rollins and Bernie Allen contributed offensively. The Twins, aided by Bob Allison and Lennie Green homers, benefited from a four-run third inning to break a 2-2 tie.
