Distributive Education students at Washington High School hosted their fourth annual employer employee banquet at the Captain's Table. DECA president Gary Pribyl welcomed guests as Dave Livingston delivered the address. John Phleger presented DE certificates to 58 students who together logged 52 200 hours on the job and earned 39 150 dollars.

Rites on Thursday For Gary Novy 21
Funeral services for Gary Keith Novy will be held at 2 30 p m Thursday at Jones Funeral Home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. He drowned May 20 1962 in Cedar River at Palisades Park while helping boys fish. He was born May 7 1941 in Jefferson County to Eldon and Maxine Novy. He attended Riverside Schools and Cedar Rapids Barber College. He was an assistant Scoutmaster at Asbury Church Cedar Rapids and had bought a barber shop in Coralville a week before his death. He and his family moved to Cedar Rapids about a year ago from the Navy farm south of Riverside. Survivors: parents Eldon and Maxine Novy Cedar Rapids two sisters Nancy and Sally at home grandparents Otto Novy Riverside and Carl Jarrard Washington.

Plane Crashes at Centerville Legion Sponsor Circus Here
The Kelly Miller Circus will perform in Washington on July fourth sponsored by Leon Beatty American Legion post George Rudiger post commander. It will be staged at the Washington County fairgrounds with a parade in the afternoon and both matinee and evening shows. The circus features about 25 elephants and other wild animals.

Strange Airplane May Have Traveled Over Washington
Two Washington residents heard a strange sounding aircraft Tuesday evening with speculation it could be the ill fated jet that crashed near Centerville killing 45. Mrs. Wilson Putman and her son heard a large craft overhead between 7 30 and 8. Deputy Woody Richards also heard a big plane as strong winds carried the sound. It remains unclear if the jet was in the sky over Washington before its crash near the Iowa Missouri border between 9 and 10 Tuesday night.

A Continental Airlines Boeing 707 crashed during a violent storm near Centerville Iowa killing all 45 aboard. One passenger Takehiko Nakano survived briefly before dying in hospital. The wreckage spanned miles across Iowa and Missouri with seven hundred searchers aiding the investigation.
