H. A. Lee reports two men who jostled him in a revolving door at Cedar Rapids stole his wallet containing nearly $60 after the incident. Police are investigating the larceny.

Services for Thomas Morrison S84 longtime Black Hawk county resident will be held Saturday afternoon. Morrison attended Westminster Presbyterian Church men’s Sunday School for 24 years without missing a Sunday.
County officials investigated the first reported theft of sealed corn in the area. About 75 to 100 bushels of 1939 corn were stolen between Saturday and Tuesday from the Georke Gengler farm near Whittemore.
Ames Iowa State college students will vote in a straw ballot organized by campus groups The Daily Student Young Republicans and Young Democrats. Republicans on the ballot include Wendell Wilkie Robert Taft and Thomas Dewey. Democrats list Franklin D Roosevelt Henry A Wallace and Cordell Hull. Socialists feature Norman Thomas Marynard Krieger and James Maurer.
A small piece of steel became lodged in the left forearm of tt. Harding while repairing a gas pipe at the Rock Island coal chute. It was removed at Washington County Hospital this morning. The fragment entered a nerve sheath, causing temporary arm paralysis, but doctors report no lasting damage.
Daniel John Gass 68 died suddenly at home in West Chester this morning at 7 30 after being stricken while in his yard. Funeral services Saturday at 2 30 at Jones Funeral Home conducted by Rev C K Hillis of Katona. Burial in West Chester Cemetery. Born November 1871 in Illinois he married Lottie Logan in Pinkneyville on March 22 1894. They moved to West Chester in 1918 and lived on a farm before moving to town. He was a Baptist church member. Survived by wife, son Paul of New Sharon, and daughter Edna Sebaffer of Oakdale.
Commander Bob Kurtz of the Leon Beatty post of the American Legion asks all veterans and patriotic citizens to wear memorial poppies on Poppy Day, Saturday May 25, in tribute to World War I fallen soldiers and to honor American heritage. The message recalls battles in France 22 years ago and the poppy as the memorial flower.
Wayland resident C C Wenger died this morning after seven at his home. lifelong Wayland Mennonite Church member He led the former Wayland Savings Bank, now State Bank He was survived by a son Allen of Wayland a daughter Mrs O F Boller of Washington and four grandchildren with one great grandchild.
Deputy Stan Kiesey and Chief Jay Brown aided in pursuing a car believed tied to a $50 000 jewel robbery near Redfield Iowa. State patrolman Hans Aldershot spotted the getaway car between West Chester and Sigourney, but the suspects sped away and vanished near the West Chester corner on No 92. Four men were in the vehicle, and authorities lacked a follow up as the car disappeared before Washington officers could intervene.

Workmen cleaned debris after plaster fell from the ceiling of the Tar Loan and Trust Building this afternoon. No injuries were reported.
Chairman Roger Sherman of the Washington county Red Cross reports about 100 has been contributed to the county relief fund for victims of the German invasion of Holland and Belgium. A drive is planned next week to reach the 720 county quota. Donations may be mailed to the Red Cross chapter in Washington.
Washington firemen last evening tested new nozzles and hydrant connections under the direction of Chief Hal Reister to familiarize themselves with the updated apparatus.
A new diesel freight engine, tested by the Rock Island road, pulled a train of six cars weighing 3,500 tons through Washington yesterday. Onlookers marveled at its size and power, noting it has twice the power of the largest steam locomotives on the line and can haul about 4,000 tons. The engine operates in three large units and resembles Rocket passenger engines but with greater power.
Plaster fell in two offices littering rooms and prompting repairs by building owners to restore the ceiling to good condition.
About 75 to 100 Washington county Republicans attended the first district party rally in Iowa City last night. Governor George A. Wilson and challenger Irving H. Knudson spoke as roughly 700 people filled the venue. All gubernatorial candidates were invited, with one declining. Knudson drew strong applause for urging that all candidates be seen and heard.

Paris dispatch says allied forces repelled German attacks in a major battle that began yesterday in the Cambrai Valenciennes sector and continued today, though the final outcome remains uncertain.
German columns smashed across the channel to Boulogne threatening the port and a wider invasion risk. British troops fought hard to repel the assault as London warned loss of Boulogne would endanger Calais and stall Allied lines in northern France and Belgium. Churchill acknowledged the battle’s outcome was not certain.
Allies, boosted by successful American bomber flights to Europe, plan to accelerate transfers by air. British and Canadian pilots at Canadian bases await U S planes to fly the route once used by clipper ships before the war’s outbreak.
London May 23 The air ministry announced a Blenheim force attacked the German headquarters driving on the Channel dropping nearly 100 large bombs deep inside the target area. The raid lasted over eight hours and focused on tanks armored vehicles and troop concentrations in the vanguard. Relays of aircraft flew almost continuously delivering bombs and machine gun fire creating damage and confusion.
