Nine Iowans Die Violently This Weekend

A weekend in Iowa saw nine fatalities from air and road accidents, drowning, and self infliction. Victims include James Henick, Maynard Lukavsky, Elmer Martin, Irene Lang, Elmer Bretscher, Dick Boden, Robert Tanner, Richard Boehme, and Marvin Conrad.

Hold Lukavsky Services Today

Funeral services were held at 1 30 in Muscatine for Maynard Lukavsky of Muscatine born to Mrs George Young of Washington. He was killed in an airplane accident at Muscatine Sunday. Burial followed in Muscatine with relatives from Washington in attendance. Lukavsky, a student flyer who borrowed the plane, had spent part of his boyhood in this community and attended local grade schools before moving to Muscatine years ago. He had a sister, Mrs La Vaughn Moore, living in Washington.

A bomb mailed to the Dead Letter Office in Washington exploded in the clerk Myrton Guhung's hands. One of his hands was shattered and another worker injured as the package detonated after being opened. The device had been sealed and was believed to contain a book.
