Corporate farming bill rewritten in Iowa Senate plan
DES MOINES UPI The Senate Agriculture Committee approved a complete rewrite of the House passed corporate farming bill. The measure requires all corporations and limited partnerships owning or leasing agricultural land or engaged in farming in Iowa to report activities to the secretary of state. It would ban food processors from operating feed lots in Iowa unless for research or education and set a July 1 1985 disposal deadline for processors with amendments applying only to those with sales amounts.

Waives to grand jury on livestock charges
Elmer A. Koch of rural Brighton waived to the county grand jury Monday on two misdemeanor charges accusing him of impounding animals without proper food and water. A separate conviction for improper disposal of a dead animal came with a $100 fine, while six other charges were dismissed for lack of probable cause. The case stems from alleged neglect of seven ponies and a bovine, tied to a fence and not fed or watered, with further charges waived to the grand jury and potential district court filings possible.
