In Marshalltown a pet pigeon belonging to Dr. J. W. Stegman has disappeared, sparking concern that the bird is gone for good. The bird had previously vanished and then returned.
West Union residents approve a 292 to 23 vote granting a five year franchise to Central States Power and Light Corp. J. W. Campbell division manager announced early construction of a new $8,000 substation after vote totals were counted.
Under a city council ordinance the salaries of all city employees will be raised from five to ten dollars. Members said the measure aims to adjust pay scales and improve municipal staff morale.
Demonstrations on grasshopper control are set for Page Fremont Millis Des Moines Louisa and Muscatine counties under CG supervision with Decker and A D Worth ipeton of the Iowa State College extension service. State entomologist D C Drake sought 12 carloads of bran and 30 000 pounds of sodium arsenate poison along with last year’s ton hound at Des Moines to aid the effort.
Prof. Mason Ladd of the University of Iowa will be principal speaker at the Sioux City meeting of 200 Northwest Iowa junior members of the state bar association. Fred Stilwill of Sioux City, president of the junior division, will preside.
Clarence area farmer Fred Meyer, 47, was trampled by a horse while trimming its hooves. He suffered abdominal injuries including a ruptured appendix and damaged intestines. emergency operation removed the appendix and 16 inches of intestines.

In Waterloo a 17 month old boy, John Graham Alcorn, fell ten feet from an elevator shaft after slipping from his grandmother Mary Craham’s side as the car left the first floor. The child, son of Mr and Mrs Robert Alcorn Route 3 Waterloo, died instantly.
Davenport Chinese shop operator Andrew Verre aged 59 faces trial for rape. He was arrested in March with three Davenport business men over alleged indecencies with eight girls aged 11 to 15. One co-defendant received 25 years, another six months, the third was acquitted.
Bil Stanley, about 85, unemployed, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and drunkenness after he allegedly chased his wife with a butcher knife.
