Political Ringside: Six Iowa patrolmen run for sheriff
Des Moines reports at least six former state highway patrolmen are candidates for sheriff in Iowa counties. Four resigned to campaign, two have been out for months. Lieut Claude Shearer of Cedar Falls and Verdell Schug, William Bennett, Arthur Longseth, Otto Depping, and Raymond Connor are among the contenders. Al Kahl, state commissioner of public safety, says officers cannot keep their patrol jobs while seeking political office.
