A new hospital project is planned in Des Moines for the Iowa Methodist Hospital Association. The report notes construction to advance medical care and local infrastructure for the church affiliated facility.
Des Moines reports Articles of Incorporation filed for record by the Iowa Methodist Hospital Association to build and maintain a city hospital. The venture will be supported by the church in Iowa and conducted by the Deaconess Association of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
Des Moines May 19 The Iowa supreme court reversed the Tama district court in Hall vs Coffin. The petition alleged Coffin owner of the building and intoxicating liquors used for illegal sale by registered pharmacists. The court found evidence showing Coffin had multiple liquor sales and patrons became intoxicated, sustaining the charge.
Rev. Dr. R. B. Sample of Westminster Church New York won the moderator post on the first ballot with 238 votes in the fifth annual assembly in Minneapolis. Rev. Matthias Haines and Rev. Dr. R. F. Coyle trailed, as the morning service featured remarks on the McGiffert heresy matter and a letter from Dr. Arthur C. McGiffert.
Judge Baker of the United States court barred Terre Haute from forcibly opening Ohio street through the Evansville and Terre railroad yards. Joliet Illinois May 19 Fimer A Lutes a trusted Joliet prison guard and Frank Popp were involved in stealing prison goods. They hid items in Lutes barn then moved them to Chicago at night. Lutes indicted for larceny and burglary, released on bail, forfeited later. Lutes captured in Valparaiso Indiana and jailed. Lutes married with two children. Goods valued about 700 dollars.
In Indianapolis on May 19 an electric car traveling twelve miles an hour collided with a hose wagon en route to a fire. Frank Owens the hose wagon driver and James Fenne ran the car motorman were trapped and badly crushed. Benjamin Foxlow pipeman aboard the hose wagon was also badly injured. In Lima Peru on May 19 the government issued a decree restricting non Roman Catholic marriages requiring parties to declare their religion under oath.
Detroit reports that a conference on May 19 with Senator McMillan and local Republicans from across Michigan backed his candidacy for a third term. The meeting included several party leaders who endorsed the bid and outlined ongoing campaign support.
