Licensing overhaul passes Iowa Senate for barbers and cosmetologists

The Iowa Senate approved a bill revising barber and cosmetologist licensing after four days of debate and 30 amendments. The measure allows cosmetologists to cut all hair while barbers lose permanent wave powers, with both groups able to style wigs. training requirements reached at least 2,000 hours. A tie-breaking vote by Lt. Gov. Neu adopted one amendment on assistants. The House did not meet Friday after late Thursday election-challenge debate.

Suit Filed Over Polk County House Seat Challenge

A Polk County District Court suit seeks to block the seating of James Spradling, challenging the ouster of Tyle Stephens from the Iowa House.
