Flanders Sentenced on Drunk Driving Charge at Sigourney
Maurice Harold Flanders, held on driving while drunk, appeared before Judge R. G. Yoder at Sigourney and was fined 800 dollars with license suspended 60 days. The fine was paid. Flanders from Harper was arrested by Sheriff H. M. Putnam on Sunday for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated on Washington Street and Highway 2. He waived to district court. bond set at 1,000 dollars. He offered to plead guilty and be sentenced immediately and be taken before a district court judge.

Inquest Held Over Bunk Car Death of Bernard Desmond
Coroner W S Kyle presided as a jury investigated the bunk car fire in Rock Island yards that suffocated Bernard P Desmond a 30 year old Des Moines welder and veteran. Origin of the blaze remains unknown with cigarette suspected. Desmond served in the 242nd Engineers in WWII and was buried in Council Bluffs after services at St Francis Catholic church.
