Ottumwa Iowa May 19 Tarr 54 Ottumwa today was convicted of manslaughter in the December death of his wife Nettie 34. On trial since Monday in Wapello district court he was indicted for first degree murder. A jury of eight women and four men deliberated 12 hours before returning the manslaughter verdict based on circumstantial evidence. Testimony showed Tarr was wounded in the same incident.

Des Moines May 10 Iowa milk production rose two percent in April 1947 to 585 million pounds making it the fourth highest on record for the period. For the first four months total output reached 2.004 billion pounds, while egg production fell to 546 million in April the lowest in five years. The service reports 1,272,000 milking cows on farms, down 1.5 percent from a year ago, the lowest in 18 years, with nest numbers leveling off. The average layers on farms in April stood at 28,129,000, down 6.5 percent from last April and the lowest since 1941.
