The Mini Bus announces trips to Davenport on Friday May 14 with overnight service to Dubuque and Galena on May 20-21. A May 26 trip to Prairie Home is planned, with reservations via SEATS.
Washington Junior High students will attend classes in unorthodox dress for Slop Day. The event raises money for school improvement projects including three bur oak trees and a trampoline fund. Sponsored by the Student Council, participation is voluntary.
In Des Moines UPI reports at least 271 local government units have budgets above the 9 per cent growth cap in Iowa's new property tax relief law. It covers 185 cities 65 counties and 21 agricultural extension offices. They may appeal to the State Appeal Board within seven days.
A liquid ammonia tanker vaulted a railing and exploded on the 610 Loop near the Southwest Freeway in a busy Houston business area. Three dead and at least 30 exposed to toxic fumes as Civil Defense orders a three mile evacuation. Witnesses report a hole in the freeway and windows rattled by the blast.
Kandee Jacoby 25 testified in Linn County District Court about the Jan 3 shooting death of her husband Douglas 32. She said their marriage in 1970 included a promise from him to leave the Chosen Few motorcycle club and that she wanted no children unless he quit the group. She denied holding a gun to him during a bed scene with another woman, saying she had a gun but did not aim it. Testimony began last Thursday.
Georgia Skelton 54, former wife of comedian Red Skelton, shot herself in the head at her Rancho Mirage home. Deputy coroner says no note found, despondency suspected. gun discovered beside her. Skelton divorced from the comedian in November 1973. authorities classify the death as an apparent suicide.
Iowa Supreme Court issues second injunction against a Linn County judge’s gag order banning publication of juror names and details in Kandee Jacoby murder trial. Judge Osmundson must turn over juror list as public record. sequestering during deliberations mentioned as a possible alternative. The decision upholds press rights while preserving court authority to issue a written opinion later.
The Senate approved 37 to 10 a bill to create an intermediate appellate court with five justices to ease Iowa Supreme Court backlog. The court would hear deflected appeals while the high court retains final jurisdiction on certain cases. A separate 44 to 1 vote approved a $30,000 Medicaid program audit by Haskins and Sells, with concerns raised about secrecy and reporting. Des Moines police and several agencies pursued and detained two men, John Albert Danielson 35 of Altoona and George William Morris 34 from Kansas City Mo, after a high speed chase. Authorities seized a large amount believed to be cocaine and they await arraignment in Des Moines city jail.
Washington reports Iowa's average personal income grew 11.7 percent in 1975, ranking third fastest in the nation. The BEA study shows Iowa's average $5,899, $65 above the U.S. figure, and placing Iowa 19th nationally with Alaska top at $8,815 and a 27.9 percent rise. Mississippi remained lowest at $4,041.

He suggested a giant bonfire costing about 200000 to purge records, while Rep. Abzug warned against destruction and pressed for notice to all individuals who were targets of improper or illegal intelligence activity.
