Ammonia tanker explodes on Houston freeway

A liquid ammonia tanker vaulted a railing and exploded on the 610 Loop near the Southwest Freeway in a busy Houston business area. Three dead and at least 30 exposed to toxic fumes as Civil Defense orders a three mile evacuation. Witnesses report a hole in the freeway and windows rattled by the blast.

Kandee Jacoby Testifies In Cedar Rapids Murder Trial

Kandee Jacoby 25 testified in Linn County District Court about the Jan 3 shooting death of her husband Douglas 32. She said their marriage in 1970 included a promise from him to leave the Chosen Few motorcycle club and that she wanted no children unless he quit the group. She denied holding a gun to him during a bed scene with another woman, saying she had a gun but did not aim it. Testimony began last Thursday.

Iowa ponders five member intermediate appellate court

The Senate approved 37 to 10 a bill to create an intermediate appellate court with five justices to ease Iowa Supreme Court backlog. Two Held in Iowa for Possession of Cocaine

Des Moines police and several agencies pursued and detained two men, John Albert Danielson 35 of Altoona and George William Morris 34 from Kansas City Mo, after a high speed chase. Authorities seized a large amount believed to be cocaine and they await arraignment in Des Moines city jail.

Iowa Per Capita Income Rises 11.7 Percent in 1975

Washington reports Iowa's average personal income grew 11.7 percent in 1975, ranking third fastest in the nation. The BEA study shows Iowa's average $5,899, $65 above the U.S. figure, and placing Iowa 19th nationally with Alaska top at $8,815 and a 27.9 percent rise. Mississippi remained lowest at $4,041.

IRS files could be burned to hide privacy abuses says Alexander

Alexander told a House subcommittee that IRS files are inactive and would be destroyed if not for ongoing investigations. He suggested a giant bonfire costing about 200000 to purge records, while Rep. Abzug warned against destruction and pressed for notice to all individuals who were targets of improper or illegal intelligence activity. The Senate report said IRS missions supported FBI CIA and the White House including wiretaps and breakins.
