Soviet deputy foreign minister Andrei Gromyko urged the 11 nation subcommittee to include independence for Palestine as an alternate objective in the Palestine inquiry's terms of reference. The move was rebuffed by the subcommittee but Gromyko signaled it would be raised before the 55 nation political committee.

In St Martinville Louisiana Willie Francis an 18 year old Negro died in the electric chair at 12 12 P M CST after being strapped in at 12 05 and the switch thrown at 12 98 PM.
