A planning meeting for this year’s Memorial Day observance in Washington is scheduled for May 9 at city hall. VFW commander George Brock, serving as chairman, asks interested organizations and individuals to gather at 7:30 p.m.
Washington residents remembered Bill Wessler as a youngster and were surprised Tuesday when he appeared as a contestant on To Tell the Truth. He said he studied in Oklahoma, left the community years ago, and recently finished a singing job with the Metropolitan Opera while living in New York City.
A donor offered 168000 dollars to pay a damages award against Britain's Amalgamated Engineering Workers Union, ending a nationwide 1.2 million worker strike over court seizure of union funds.
