Keokuk Medical College Alumni Plans June Reunion
Keokuk graduates of the Keokuk Medical College will hold a biennial reunion in Keokuk on June 17. Dr. Bruce L. Gilfillan, secretary of the alumni, announces the event. O. L. Sohl of Keokuk serves as president and Dr. W. G. Doern of Milwaukee, Wis., as vice-president. Dental school graduates from Keokuk College of Pharmacy and St Joseph's training school for nurses will join. All but the nurse schools have been out of existence since 1908, with the medical college later moving to Drake University and then the University of Iowa.

Newton Woman Receives U S Citizenship in Federal Court
Mrs Sam Golberg of Newton was granted U S citizenship in federal court. She and 106 other foreign born Iowa residents received citizenship certificates from Federal Judge Charles Dewey. Golberg, wife of a Newton finesmith, spent two years in a Siberian prison camp after political discussions with a group during czarist Russia.

Pierce Knox of Oakland will begin a summer engagement on Saturday May 11 at Ripley auditorium in the 1440 New York World's Fair. He will give 12 to 60 appearances daily, lasting until October 27. Washington Iowa Council Advances Traffic Plan And Purchases
On May 7 1940 the Washington Iowa city council approved funding to pave extensions of North Second Avenue north past the underpass and the two blocks between Madison and Washington streets to reroute traffic and improve safety. The council ordered a copy of the resolution sent to state and federal officials and approved buying a new Chevrolet truck for the street cleaning department. Four bids were received for the truck and a contract was awarded to Tucker Chevrolet. The meeting also covered fire siren planning and a report from P L Jordan on the national waterworks convention.

Walter Rhodes known as Dusty Rhodes died at the Iowa state prison after a hanging arranged by Sheriff Don McComas. He confessed to murdering his wife Myrtle Shriver with a dynamite loaded shotgun to wed a blonde divorcee and spoke to reporters last night from death row. Rhodes blamed Governor Wilson for not commuting his sentence and asked for forgiveness before his funeral by the Henderson funeral home of Toledo, Iowa, planned for Wednesday.
