SIOUX CITY Mrs Erna Hermans divorce suit against Louis J Herman 29 was started and ended the same day. Mrs Herm an 26 was granted a decree for inhuman treatment and custody of three minor children plus 12 dollars weekly alimony. IOWA CITY Frank F Rod gers prominent banker died at his daughter in law's home age 59. He was a former grand master of the Sovereign Grand Lodge for the World in 1922. Funeral services set for Saturday.

Koleslaw Giela zis a packing house worker in Sioux City died of a heart attack in the federal building while to be examined for final citizenship. Born in Lithuania, he arrived in Sioux City in 1911.
Cedar Rapids editor Ed Hill of Oxford Junction was unanimously endorsed by the second district Republicans to fill a state central committee seat. He will be named by the committee to succeed Mayor Richard N. Howes of Clinton, who resigned after six years on the panel.
Humboldt D W Stephens of Corwith, who escaped during visiting hours, was found near Cor with and pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated. He was sentenced to a year in prison.
Funeral services for Emma Watkins 71 a longtime Iowa City child educator in the University of Iowa elementary schools will be held Saturday. She lived in Iowa City since 1870 and died after a heart attack while active in community affairs.
Iowa City John Mooney a University of Iowa senior journalism student was named editor of the Daily Iowan succeeding Staten Browning effective June 1. The student board of publications made the appointment and Mooney will choose his staff later. Edward McCloy was named editor and Betty Lee Roeser business manager of Frivol the university humor magazine.
Des Moines was offered a mayoral post to succeed the late Dwight N. Lewis by the police chief at Guthrie Center. The offer notes Des Moines held an election same time as Guthrie Center and cites former mayor Burl Mahan not running again. Des Moines city council has not accepted the offer.
Governor Kraschel proclaimed May 20 to 27 as Iowa Produced Canned Foods Week to boost agriculture and industry and raise income for Iowa workers and farmers. He noted Iowa industry produced 145,000,000 cans of vegetables.
CHICAGO May 6 INS two distraught parents face a life and death decision for their five weeks old daughter with a malignant orbital tumor. Doctors warn eight weeks at most without surgery. The parents Dr Herman Colan and Estelle Colan weigh removing one eye at a time risking blindness or allowing the tumor to spread.

Alice Wilson, a junior high student, suffered bruises on her right elbow and knee after a bicycle accident on West Main Street while returning home from school. She was thrown from her bike when she and her machine scraped the pavement near the Penney store, on the north side.

Des Moines reports Insurance companies owning land in Iowa agreed to cooperate in improving leasing terms between landlords and tenants. Representatives of major institutional landowners told the Iowa committee on farm tenancy they generally supported the recommendations from county farmer hearings to improve tenancy and land tenure. The county hearings drew more tenants than landlords.
The National Commerce Chamber presents sixteen resolutions at its 26th meeting in Washington advocating repeal or modification of New Deal laws, limits on federal regulation of wages and hours, state public regulations, collaboration between management and labor, opposition to crop curtailment, plus foreign trade and monetary policy reforms. It calls for congressional review of recovery measures, removal of unnecessary regulations, restrained antitrust changes, and a coordinated approach to banking, railroads, flood control, land use, and international disputes while defending national defenses and foreign commerce.
A group of 37 Nebraska farmers announced plans for a state wide meeting at Nebraska City on May 11 to form a cornbelt liberty league unit. They set up a temporary organization to wage a militant campaign against the 1938 federal farm program and its crop control provisions with repeal of the AAA act as their main goal.
An important meeting for beef cattle raisers in Washington county is planned for next Tuesday evening at eight o'clock in the G A R room of the courthouse. County Agent W J Roudabush says H C Aaberg and Carl Oldsen of the beef cattle association will speak. The agenda includes beef price outlook feed and management discussions and all county beef farmers are urged to attend.
Des Moines May 6. Attorney Will J. Hayek asked Iowa Supreme Court for a new trial for Walter Rhodes of Iowa City in the dynamite homicide of his wife. The appeal cites juror prejudice and technical errors claiming bias left on the panel. Rhodes awaits execution on death row at Fort Madison state prison.
Reports from Salamanca say four hundred government troops were killed in an attack on rebel positions along the Mediterranean coastal front near Hendaye on May 6.

Mt. Pleasant Iowa May 6 Mrs Elizabeth Crouch 44 died today as the third victim in a fatal auto crash. Authorities reported the collision occurred earlier this week involving multiple injuries and fatalities.
The 218 member House bloc sign petition to discharge the rules committee on Norton's minimum wage and maximum hour bill. Chairman Norton will move to the floor on May 23. rules committee had opposed reporting the measure. Roosevelt supported moving the bill to the floor amid loud applause.
Captain Amlong and his wife and five sons Michael Jerry Tommy Joseph William stay with his parents Mr and Mrs George Amlong after twenty seven months in Alaska. They head to Philadelphia where the army captain will be stationed indefinitely. Captain Amlong was quartermaster at Chilkott Barracks Alaska.
