Carlyle Williamson was bruised when he fell from a speeding auto near Grundy Center. He opened the door to discard a cigarette stub and the wind pulled him from his seat.
Walter Fuller, a produce buyer from What Cheer Iowa, lost $150 in cash and a good check after being robbed by two men who posed as hitchhikers. Fuller said an accomplice followed his car near Rose Hill and the pair drove off together after the crime.
Nearly 200 relief workers gathered at Muscatine city hall to protest reduced working hours and general relief conditions. A protest committee was formed at the meeting.
Children playing with matches caused a blaze that burned the barn on the former W. E. Dennis farm near Kilduff. Stored feed was destroyed and the loss was estimated at 1,500 dollars.
Pinky Kra mer, 23, began work at a construction firm when bricks slid down a chute and struck his left hand. A physician amputated the first finger.
A Fairfield Welfare Department committee from the Woman's Club met with Jefferson County Medical Society representatives to renew plans for this year’s Heart and Lung clinic. County Social Welfare worker Mrs Laura Goebel will select the patients who will receive examinations.
Ralph Butler, 27, a Newton factory worker, was charged Monday with leaving the scene after his car struck eight year old Donald Kinser on April 13 as the boy stepped onto the curb. The incident followed when the boy’s dog darted toward the vehicle causing it to swerve and break both legs.
Fairfield resident Tom Fenton plans his 28th trip to the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. The dyed in the wool horse racing enthusiast maintains a standing hotel reservation in Louisville and reports never paying for the races as part of his longtime participation in the event.
Davenport’s last water trough will be emptied after Levett County Supervisor Frank F. Schutter ordered the supply turned off upon receiving a $22.80 bill for April usage. He said the trough was used only by a junk dealer’s horse.
DES MOINES Dr Kout, a Holmgren Amesta physician, was sentenced to a year and a day in Leavenworth Kansas for illegally administering morphine to drug addicts and for admitting to personal use, after pleading guilty before Federal Judge Charles A. Dewey.

Dinner followed at 6:30 p m and the program in the medical amphitheater featured Dr P A White and Dr A A Garride of Davenport on Urological Problems with lantern slides and X ray films.

Chicago reports that machine gun bandits robbed the Citizens State Bank of Park Ridge, taking between eight and ten thousand dollars. The robbers, experienced, wore heavy goggles and gagged mouths as tear gas released by an employee did not deter them.
Mrs. Milo Steele’s Christmas cactus continues to bloom past Thanksgiving. The plant, which bloomed twice last year, has 29 buds and 4 blossoms this year, setting a new record for the specimen.
The County Treasurer Marion George paid out 415 750 yesterday toward primary road bonds called in and maturing plus 235 232 50 interest. Of the 491 000 called in 294 000 went to bonds 21 759 to interest with the rest from a premium and state highway funds. The 1919 to 1949 payoff plan spans until 1949 with annual retirements beginning next year.
Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Ingham widow of John Ingham longtime Washington County figure were held at 10 this morning at L A Jones Funeral Home. The service was led by Dr A S Smith with a vocal duet by Vira Carl Hedges and Mrs Rempa Hampsher. Burial followed at Elmshowe Cemetery. Mrs Ingham born October 28 1852 near Washington died aged 82 years six months leaving five children ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Firefighters from Washington used a mutual insurance owned truck to battle a blaze on road 161 south of Rath station. A large semi trailer carrying sugar and hardware caught fire after carburetor trouble. The truck was towed to Rath station. most of its load damaged but salvage possible. Loss is covered by insurance.
Berlin May 2. Herman Goering said secret factories hidden in forests are producing aircraft for Germany. He claimed Germany's air fleet will be as modern as any in the world. Britain’s Ramsey MacDonald told Parliament Britain is building up its air force to counter German expansion.
Washington county Veterans of Foreign Wars post No 2808 will join American Legion at Brighton on Tuesday evening May 7. About 315 overseas veterans in the county are eligible for the V F W post. The post plans booster trips to towns, the V F W band will travel and, if weather permits, perform an open air concert.
