An eight year old boy, Robert Young, performed a church organ concert in Shenandoah. He reached the pedals with his toes and played the instrument with ease, drawing praise from local onlookers.
About 200 girls from 17 Iowa high schools will attend the annual Home Economics congress in Ames on May 9 10 and 11 official enrollment figures showed.
Des Moines reports the first convention in two years will meet in Davenport on June 11. J. C. Lewis, president of the federation, announced the plan for the gathering of labor leaders and delegates.
Iowa City Professor Louis Pelzer of the University of Iowa history department was chosen president of the Mississippi Valley Historical Association at the annual convention in Cincinnati Ohio.
Members of the Boone golf club issued an urgent plea to nearby farmers to keep their cows off the golf links, aiming to protect the course from livestock intrusion and damage.

Des Moines officials issued a last warning on the use of 1934 license plates. Lew Wallace, state superintendent of motor vehicles, directed inspectors to stop drivers using old plates and file charges starting at 7 a m today.
Davenport shoppers lost purses and a dress box when placed on counters. Miss Lucille Wiggins and Mrs. O B Jenkins warned that leaving on counters invites theft. The purse held $10, keys, and personal items.
Cosmetics and women’s wear will rival educational exhibits at the first Business and Professional Women’s club exposition during the sixteenth annual Iowa federation convention in Des Moines May 17 to 19. Highlights include the LB. P. W.’s paste display and a scholarship fund presentation.
Mrs. G W Johnson and her three sons visited Des Moines while ill with measles and left with $16. Bach sold blood to the Samuel Deutsch Serum center at Michael Reese hospital Chicago to be used in a preventive serum. Each boy received $5.
William Burton of Omaha seeks his birth mother Norma Billings Brady, whose letters reached him after he learned he was adopted as a baby. Born around 1900 in or near Shenandoah, he was raised by an Omaha couple. Burton hopes to connect with his birth family after learning his origins.
Washington county expects $485,085.45 in corn hog payments for 1935 contracts with first checks due in July and a second in January 1936. A total of 1,522 county applications were filed, with payments distributed by township and adjusted for reduced contracts and acreage retirements.
Cedar Rapids report states Mayor W. J. Neill aged 60 died today in a local hospital after an illness that began last October. He served as mayor and was a longtime public figure in the city.

At a Fairfield circus event for schoolchildren two youths, 13 year old Richard Stortz and Virginia Brooks, were knocked down by an enraged elephant after a trainer twisted its tail. The animals handlers halted the show as medics attended to the injured boys.

Y's men outlined a fall Amateur Night as the first project of the season with May and June busy in the community. Esther Masson and Don Davis performed piano and oboe solos with Esther Masson at the piano, Guy Carlton introducing. The club will handle ticket sales for the Y dinner, receipts going to the Y and Ten Better Housing committee books to fund the scout troop. President J. A. Taylor led the meeting.
Phillip Martin a 46 year old watchman at a Paterson silk mill was arrested and charged with sending a letter to Col Charles A Lindbergh threatening to kill him. Described as a German alien and said to be suffering from brainstorms police said he appeared irresponsible.
Des Moines municipal court ordered Paul Fairgraves held to the grand jury for investigation into liquor importation from Illinois. Judge Ralph Powers issued the ruling in a case involving liquor purchased in another state and brought into Des Moines.
Mayor R. L. Lytle proclaims a citywide Music Week May 5 to 11, urging churches schools and civic groups to join in concerts and observances organized by the Fortnightly Club Music Department. The proclamation emphasizes the beneficial influence of music and invites public participation.
Dr Alzo J Fisher a prominent missionary leader from Iowa will address the Presbyterian church at 7 30 tonight. He arrives from Canton with firsthand China reports noting the Canton river front’s transformation and his role in establishing modern schools. Fisher spent thirty two years in China and in 1932 became acting general secretary of the church of Christ in China.
Frank Salus area supervisor from Washington DC visited Washington Iowa to close the farm census district office and finalize statewide counts. Exit actions included M D Thomson J H Lattimer and Lawrence L Cram departing for home. Lee and Jones counties completed data with 1935 figures preliminary and subject to correction.
Sioux City May 1 A ouster action against Public Safety Commissioner Henry Kuhlmann was to be filed today. County Attorney Max Duckworth said the move followed a failed bid to shift prosecution responsibility to the city council.
Washington announces a week of concerts May 6 to 11 with daily programs in Central Park and at local venues. The lineup features Mrs. T C Meibohm organ recital Ruth Speidel soprano Gil bert Check baritone and the Washington Concert Band plus student and church recitals. City funds and a silver offering for Cheek will support the week organized by the Fortnightly club Music department.
