Des Moines reports a 14 cent rise in corn price from March 14 to April 15 while hog prices fell 20 cents per 100 pounds. Leslie Carl notes corn to hog value equates to 7.5 bushels of corn and marks hog feeding unfavorably. Prices for wheat barley rye and oats edge slightly higher with soybeans at 1.50 a bushel.
Grinnell resident George W. Peterson, 50, was walking during a storm when cornice fragments struck him. He suffered two broken ribs and bruises but escaped without his false teeth, which hospital attendants say he may have swallowed.
Adams county deputy Tut Anderson on duty ran a stop sign in Gorbon after making a rescue and while listening to a prisoner’s story he missed the sea.
Mrs. Harwood, 21, of Mason City, was critically injured when a car her husband drove struck a parked truck in Emmetsburg.

Police and Humane Society officers seek several unidentified boys in connection with the death of a small dog pushed through a cistern top. The animal was found in six feet of water below the opening, Friday.

Rex Smith sells the Washington Dairy to W M Tweeten of Independence after seven years of operation. Tweeten, ex Cherry-Hurrell sales staff, holds a dairy degree from Iowa State College and plans equipment upgrades while keeping current staff and milk deliveries. The new owners and their two sons have moved into East Washington street quarters. Smith remains as milk supplier. State Senator Claire Dewey and Representative Everett L Stewart return home after a busy Iowa legislative session.
Rev. M. C. Carstensen, pastor of the Washington Baptist church, will resign at the May annual meeting to become director of evangelism for Baptist churches in Iowa and Nebraska. Headquarters likely in Omaha, serving nearly 400 congregations and coordinating evangelists for statewide campaigns. He plans to address Nebraska and Iowa associations in June as part of the new role.
Funeral services for Mrs. W J Brooks will be held Sunday afternoon at 4 30 at the Methodist church Dr Arthur Atack will be in charge. Burial with her at Elm Grove cemetery. Mrs Brooks was a member of the Methodist church. She was killed yesterday morning when the car she rode in with her son James Brooks collided with another car near North Liberty Iowa. James Brooks who had mainly a cut on his head was able to return to Washington yesterday afternoon. The driver of the other car was not hurt. Mrs Brooks was a native of Pennsylvania and had lived here since 1897 coming from Monmouth Illinois where she attended Monmouth college before her marriage to W J Brooks who died here a few years ago. There are two children the son and a daughter Mrs Margaret Kyle of this community.
Dr EK L Walsh, director of the county health unit, reports 89 immunized against diphtheria at Crawfordsville yesterday. All were school pupils except for a few pre school age and teachers. The school has 178 pupils with many already immunized. smallpox vaccination is planned a week from Monday. Ainsworth pupils will be immunized for diphtheria next Tuesday morning.

Amanda Jane Wallace age 83 died early this morning after a long illness. She suffered a stroke six years ago and fractured a hip in February, leaving her bedbound. Funeral 2 PM Monday at Sherman’s funeral home with Dr Eastwood. burial in Woodland Cemetery. Survived by two sons Herman and Jesse, eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren. husband John W Wallace died in 1921.

Albert Orcuth of Melcher Iowa becomes proprietor of the southeast square grocery once run by James DeWit. The store remains part of the Piggly Wiggly chain with groceries and meats. Orcutt has 21 years in the business and plans to move his family after the school year ends. An opening is planned a week from today. the store is already open.
The second performance of the junior college play Big Hearted Herbert filled the high school auditorium. Tickets sold out for the evening as students from local high schools attended after an afternoon showing, and the cast delivered a lively, well received performance.
Mrs. J W Kaye formerly of Washington died in Long Beach California after about a year of illness She was about 76 and survived by four daughters and one son including Mrs Orie Turner Mrs Clarence Stephenson of Eldon Mrs Sylvia Baxter Everett Kaye and Mrs Ethel Kemp The Kayes lived in Washington about 25 years and moved to California around 1910 or 1912 Phoebe J Burroughs before marriage was her name The service plans were not specified in the report

Dr Peterson moves to his South Second avenue house remodel for office and residence. Wisie Long buys the old Burrell estate building and plans extensive remodeling before leasing rooms.
In Phoenix on May 1 a plane carrying two young riders from a dude ranch and its pilot crashed during a stunt killing all three aboard. Investigators said the aerobatic maneuver went awry over the field. Local authorities planned a detailed inquiry into the crash.
