Spirit Lake level rises from winter snow and spring rain

Mrs. Sadee McAvoy reported a car stolen from in front of her beauty parlor Saturday evening. The vehicle was found later near the southeast corner of the square with the tank nearly empty, indicating the thieves used the gasoline. The car was intact aside from the fuel loss.

Ainsworth Twins Die Hours After Birth in Powers Home

Washington Men Jailed in Iowa City After Stop
Highway patrolman James Gilroy reports P A MeLamore and Jack Stafford of Washington were arrested Saturday evening for intoxication on the Hills to Iowa City road. Stafford drove the truck while MeLamore rode as passenger. The vehicle’s erratic driving endangered other cars. A justice court hearing in Iowa City was set for today. Stafford was bound over to the Johnson County grand jury on driving while intoxicated charges, while MeLamore was released on bond.
