Rain Storm Blamed for Fatal Crash Near DeWitt Iowa
Lieutenant Thurman A. Wood, an army flyer piloting the airmail from Chicago to Omaha, died when his plane crashed on a farm northeast of DeWitt after encountering an unexpected heavy rain storm. Twenty three mail sacks weighing 500 pounds were scattered. coroners said he turned east seeking an emergency landing. Volunteers gathered sacks and relayed mail to Davenport for onward transport to Omaha.

City emergency kitchen milk station to close this week
